Waitlist size??

I’m always curious about whether Andover is telling the truth. They told you that there were 25 girls on the wait list, but 3 of them are on this message board posting. Plus, 4 of my female students are also on the list. What are the chances of that?

last year, a few colleagues and I counted over 20 people just from NJ and CT who were on Andover’s wait list. But they told callers that there were just 20 on the wait list last year. So how could it be that their world wide wait list was 100% full of people who live in 2 states and know these particular teachers and consultants? I don’t know why they would lie about this, it makes no sense to me. But I’ve always suspected they have several hundred people on the Andover wait list, rather than the 25 girls, 25 boys they claim to have. what do you think?

I totally agree. Read the List of Acceptances thread, there’re quite many people waitlisted at Andover. And of course, there’re a lot more people who don’t post on CC.
Both Cate and Hotchkiss told me that they have 20-25 girls on waitlist for 11th grade ONLY. Consider that the size of Andover is ~ double both Cate and Hotchkiss, it makes no sense that they have a teeny tiny waitlist.

I hope someone from Andover is reading this so they can clear it up one way or another.

Someone should call them and be like: “uh…hi! are you um… LYING ABOUT YOUR WAITLIST SIZE!!! I KNOW YOU ARE! MY EYES ARE ON YOU!!!”

i’ll go yell at them!! i didnt apply there but i love to yell at people. but what if they contact the schools that i applied too?? that would most certainly look bad

i kinda hope someone would tell me i stand no chance… thats so much better than getting my hopes up then get rejected

It has been brought to our attention that there is some confusion about the number of students who have been waitlisted at Andover. I see from this discussion that some students have been told that there are only 25 students on Andover’s wait list. I want to clarify that our wait list is divided by applicant pool: residential status (boarding and day), gender, and grade. Therefore, we may have 25 students who have confirmed their places on a particular waiting list, e.g. 9th grade day student girls. However, the number of students on each wait list may vary by grade, gender, and residency.

As you can see, the numbers can vary and are in a constant state of flux as some students will take their names off our wait list as they accept offers of admission from other schools.

I have logged in to this discussion board this one time only to provide this clarification. If you have any other questions about Andover’s wait list, please feel free to call our office at (978) 749-4050.

Thank you.
