Sorry, I haven’t paid much attention to actual requirements for SLO, or if it’s worth staying on the waitlist; that is, do they ever take students from the waitlist.
My son knows next to nothing about SLO. I know a little in that it’s pretty hands on, which is what my son likes. However, he really wants to do game design, but he applied to a couple colleges for engineering.
I didn’t even think he’d make waitlist as he had only two years of foreign language when he applied (just one semester of community college) and his transcripts aren’t too strong (no AP exams). His SAT was good for SLO, 2230, but probably not for Mechanical Engineering. (1480; 750 Math, 730 CR) Subject tests were 730 Math II, 710 Literature.
Do they even take kids off the waitlist for Mech Engr? And probably since he will have only 2 1/2 years of foreign language and only math through Calc I, should he just not bother staying on the waitlist?
Also, I am pretty sure SLO was the most expensive of the Cal States and even though we’re Pell Grant recipients, I don’t think it will be affordable.
Worth staying on?
He’s been admitted to SDSU for Mech Engr, SJSU and CSULB for Industrial Design, and Fullerton for animation. He was admitted to three school OOS for engineering, and has some other acceptances for other majors. He’s still waiting to hear back on the other selective schools including UCs.
Thanks for the feedback.
My son had 2 friends that were waitlisted last year for ME. Neither one got in and they didn’t hear until June. Your son will need to SIR to another school if he doesn’t hear by May 1. SLO is an excellent Engineering school but they accept so few applicants, it is super competitive. Your son has some good choices as of now, but the only way to really see if SLO is a fit, would be to visit. SLO has a very different “vibe” than a school like SDSU where my younger son is currently attending. The happiness rating for SLO is very high, so much will depend upon if he thinks it is worth staying on the waitlist. Last year, they took very few off the waitlist. It really depends upon how many students end up enrolling. Good Luck.

Probably not worth staying on the list.
We do have friends who have gone to SLO and really enjoyed it, so I know it’s a good place.
Well, someone else can take his place.
Thanks for the info.
