Hmmm… I never received an an e-mail saying they will not be taking anyone off the Andover wait list…

Ours was a personal reply in response to an inquiry. I see no reason not to share it here:

"We have not accessed the waitlist in recent years, and indications are that trend will continue this year. "

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Got a letter in the mail. SPS are over enrolled. They won’t be taking anyone of the WL. They might go to it in the summer, although unlikely.

I am going to call those furniture stores now in the area - time to raise price of those XL twin beds. :D

haha hootoo. Very funny as usual.

Swissbrit, did you put in a deposit at LC?

Hmm. My son is on the waiting list for sps. We haven’t received any notification.

Wow, I had to dig really deep to find this thread. Anyway, I was wondering if the admissions office reply after you email them telling you’d like to stay on the waitlist. I emailed Andover and Deerfield telling them that I would be gone during the summer and my contact information has changed but they haven’t said anything back.

Yeah, I received emails back from all the schools saying that they would be happy to keep me on the list…

Hmm, 150 Deerfield Academy students processed for underage drinking… maybe there will be a little movement on the waitlist? We can only hope.

wow, Deerfield and SPS have had media the last couple years around under aged drinking, Andover and ? Exeter for pot smoking…Choate only for girls being katty, no recent drug abuse. The BSs are not doing so well with substance abuse.

@whattheheck - I hope that was sarcasm. Read it again. The 150 were graduates. It was probably a post graduation party. It’s not going to affect the waiting list.

BTW - substance abuse has been present at boarding schools since the beginning of time. It’s just more publicized in the age of the internet versus the old days when the revelations were restricted to parents and alumni. My own daughter went to a graduation party hosted by local parents (she was at an exclusive private school) then called to say she was “odd man out” because of all the drinking and smoking going on in sight of the hosts.

It’s not a school problem. It’s a parent problem. The key is having close relationships with your children so they understand it’s okay to avoid it. Most kids at BS do not do alcohol or drugs.

.

It’s interesting that graduation weekend was Saturday/Sunday and a bunch of kids were bussed to the party that same Sunday… Amazing if the school didn’t know about it. Even more amazing that the parents to all those kids said “Sure, no problem, see you when you get home… however and whenever that may be.” And of course, all those students were stuck in a remote location in Vermont and couldn’t leave even if they wanted to. Do you really think all the kids on the bus thought they were going to a marshmellow roast? Sure “most” kids at BS do not do alcohol or drugs… but a busload worth do.

I can’t BELIEVE there are still parents out there that think they can get away with this kind of “keep it at home on the down-low” event. In response to WhatTheHeck, yes, this kind of post-graduation roadtrip to parties in different destinations was very much in vogue even 25 years ago, but so many parents have since been busted for these kinds of events and the destruction they can cause, I’m stunned to see this problem continue. After graduation, take your kid home.

WhatTheHeck, at graduation, most boarding school students are over 18. Many can drive. Many have been arranging their own travel for several years. Some students are heading off for a Gap year traveling or working in foreign countries. With their credit cards, most of them could have arranged for taxis or car service. For all I know, some might have expected to be picked up by pre-arranged drivers after the party. Rural Vermont isn’t Kathmandu.

At any rate, I don’t see a school responsibility in such matters. The parents and guardians presumably showed up for graduation.

Okay-I’ll just get back to the topic-waitlists. Anyways, I did it! I got THE call, and I am truly excited to be a student, off the waitlist, at a boarding school! And for all of you that are still on waitlists-don’t give up! Remember to reapply next year too! Perseverance is key-all the schools will appreciate this!

@circlemidnight,
Congratulations! What school did you get off the waitlist for?

Huge Congratulations!!!

DA???

Wow! Congratulations!

And thank you for updating!

Sorry ifax-the COMPLETE opposite of DA, if you know what I mean… Thanks so much-keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!
