Does anyone know how often waitlisted applicants are later accepted at Pomona? Does anyone know a current student who was initially waitlisted? Thanks!

Getting off the waitlist depends a great deal on the yield. In the past, I believe that number has ranged from a handful to about a dozen. If Pomona remains your #1 choice, I would suggest you inform the Admissions Office. Most AOs prefer to take those students off the WL who will matriculate.

Good luck!

My son has a friend who was accepted off the waitlist for the class of 2012. I think he received a phone call around the middle of May. He also received financial aid.

Good luck to all those waiting!

My s was admitted to Pomona from the waitlist so yes it does happen. Not many came off the list so be realistic in your expectations. You will need an advocate in the admissions office so make sure your admissions officer knows of your continued interest. Since you made it this far I am sure you will do great at any college you end up attending. Best of luck.

So, pianomom, pomona still gives equal aid consideration to waitlisted students brought in in may? just to clarify…

Yes, the student I know of received financial aid.

I was waitlisted as well. I emailed them a letter telling them that I’m still very interested in Pomona, and they replied that they would consider the letter “should we turn to the waitlist in the coming weeks.” I dunno, that just gives the impression that few, if any, kids are going to get off of it this year. :(

Hang in there. Logorrhea. You really can not predict a whole lot right now, most people didn’t turn in the deposits yet, so they honestly wouldn’t know whether they would turn to waitlist this year. be patient and good things will happen. Trust me.

My son who goes to Pomona and was admitted of the waitlist got the same consideration for financial aid as the RA and ED kids. At least Pomona is not increasing the size of the waitlist as other schools are doing.
Thank you for the Sac Bee story. S is waitlisted and trying to keep his spirits up. The news that the waitlist strategy has not changed will be welcome.
