Has anyone heard back from Pomona regarding the status of their waitlisted application? It's getting close to that time...

Is there anything anyone would recommend that I do to improve my chances of getting off the waitlist? I sent a letter of continued interest so far, but I feel that that's not enough to express how badly I want to go to Pomona. Tips?

Do you have any new information or achievements to notify them of? Have you won any competitions or received any honors since you submitted your application? These would be helpful to send ASAP.

Thanks for the advice, I sent them a list of three or four new awards this afternoon… Now I suppose I just wait it out. They should be calling people starting this week, if I assume correctly?

I received a letter yesterday saying that they got the letter that I sent them and that they would have a clearer picture of what students would be needed off the waiting list after May 8th - tomorrow!

I was in contact with admissions earlier today and they informed me that they are still working on transfer applications and would begin accepting off the waitlist soon. However, the woman I spoke with did say that they would accept fewer students than last year. Probably about half as many as I recall. Sad news for all us waitlisters

I just got that email as well. I wonder how many got it in total and how many were “rejected” off the waitlist. Very strange email. Hopefully a spot will open up.

At an admitted student reception, one young alum mentioned that he had been accepted off the waitlist and got word while he was on vacation abroad. Somehow, Pomona had found him, and he was able to accept the spot.

Well at least they are in contact with people now - I didn’t receive that email that you are talking about yet, I guess it’s just a matter of time.

Does anyone know the admit rate this year? There were 6700 applicants for a 390 frosh spots, but how many admissions went out? and how large (small) was the waitlist pool? This year, been waitlisted is almost equivalent to a rejection–not quite-- but almost. The good news is that many Pomona waitlisted students have great alternatives…

fishface1, was the email you got just a general email sent out to all students who had requested to remain on the waitlist? Should I be expecting it?

I think whether you’ve got a shot or not, they’ll send you an email. A lack of one is definitely not an indicator of anything. Taken straight from the email, the director said that he had “written to others on the wait list to inform them that we will not have a place for them at the College.” I don’t think you should give up hope yet.
