Waitlist

I got accepted into Stern at NYU, but got waitlisted at every other school I applied to, including W&M

waitlisted at WM (OOS white female… nuff said)

but, I got accepted at UChicago and Emory

explain that one…

I didn’t want to go, especially after my Chicago EA acceptance, but this is still a bit distressing.

hi guys I’ve never posted before but I’ve been on and off this site throughout the college admissions process…and today I was waitlisted from W and M. Not shocked, since I’m a white female from NJ, but I was hoping for the best. Oh well. W and M was my first choice, but I got into University of Michigan, University of Maryland, and Tulane so I’ll prob go to one of those schools.

Best of luck to everyone!

Phanatic, sorry you did not get the green ink.

But IMHO, Smith and Wellsely are not lower tier by any stretch of the imagination.

Good luck.

No matter where you go, there you are. Embrace it!

Thanks, initiatelaunch. I wasn’t implying they were (I used “lower tier” to represent IWU, Saint Mary’s, MTU, that kind of thing–I should have put that after Smith and Wellesley so there wouldn’t be confusion), and I actually would have been more inclined to go there even if I had gotten green ink from W&M.

Thank you for the best wishes, and here’s to hoping that it all turns out well. :)

I was waitlisted too, and as an OOS white female, this seems to be the norm

An an OOS female from Louisiana…

I think people should definitely stay on the waitlist if you want to attend W&M but keep in mind courtesy waitlists are quite common. Universities that feel you would succeed but do not have the space will waitlist you before rejecting you to lessen the blow. As others have said transfers are a good option and writing in to express interest etc. is extremely important. Because colleges often accept such a small amount of students off the waitlist it is more about how much interest you show/how well they think you would fit in over a 2100 vs 2150.

The information about the waitlist provided in the FAQ document that accompanied your decision letter is pretty accurate. We simply have no idea whether we’ll use the waitlist in any given year and if so, to what extent. Remaining on the waitlist cannot hurt you but we certainly understand that waitlisted students will make other decisions.

My OOS daughter is a freshman at W&M --she was #1 had high SAT’s and is doing extremely well – made dean’s list first semester. However, her OOS brother applied this year and was waitlisted. He’s in the top ten and scored better on his SAT’s. Just wanted to let the OOS’s know the level of competition and that you should be proud of being OOS and making the waitlist. Wishing you all the best and hoping that those who’s first choice is W&M get there…

Oh wow, I didn’t realize how large the waitlist was! I feel very lucky to have been accepted off of it a couple years ago now! There is always hope!

DD just got accepted today off the waitlist!! She’s so excited she’s going!!

I really want to send in a letter. Hopefully that will increase my chances of getting in. Do I just send it to the admissions office? Or address it to someone in particular?

I would call them and find out who your admissions specialist is (based on where you live) and address it to him/her.

Can you please tell me if your daughter received the news via mail or a phone call?

I got admitted off the waitlist on Friday via phone.
don’t know if I want to go though…

Phone call also.

So I’m guessing they’re done with the waitlist?

I believe they said everyone will be notified by June 1st, iirc.

W&M has begun to utilize the waitlist for the incoming class of 2014. The Admission Committee is meeting regularly to determine which students on the waitlist are the most competitive for admission. Those that are selected are notified first by phone. The waitlist is not closed and will continue to be utilized until the class is complete. All students on the waitlist will be notified of their status in mid June if they have not heard from us prior to that date.
