Waitlisted 2013

jenesais_quoi - That’s an awesome way to look at waitlists. I admit I was… somewhat bitter, to say the least. But really, it’s just petty to want all the school to want you back. Really, I’m not that good a student…

Thanks for the info on Notre Dame and Smith. Notre Dame did turn me off somewhat with the whole conservative thing. I come from a conservative country already (though in a different, so very different way) - I’m not really excited about the idea of 4 more years of… that. If it’s between Smith and Vassar, I assume I’ll take Vassar, if only for the desirable location next to NYC. Although I would have loved a women’s college…

brainygotback - What are you waiting for?

I adore both Vassar and Smith. Two of my favorite colleges. My S chose Williams over Vassar; my D preferred Barnard to Smith.

I mourn the “two that got away.”

I’d be thrilled to attend either.

Vassar is more similar to Smith than to Notre Dame. Vassar was originally an all women’s college and it still has some of those traditions, like tea in Rose parlor. The interiors and exteriors of the buildings are gorgeous. The house system is the distinctive draw of Smith.

Both are top-notch schools. Don’t worry. I think you’d be happy at either. And both have a beautiful Shakespeare Garden as well as other gardens.

I was also waitlisted at Barnard, and will likely put a deposit in at Vassar. (Or possibly Wesleyan. But probably Vassar. Ahh, indecision!)

simple lily: despite vassar’s proximity to new york, not as many students as you’d think take advantage. Everyone I spoke to said there’s so much to do on campus that most don’t feel the need to find activity in the city. Also, the school’s good about finding students great internship opportunites in the city as well. Annnnd, the campus is absolutely gorgeous!

brandnewstate - Yeah, I heard that too, that people really tend to stay in Vassar and its surrounding area. I obviously don’t plan to visit every weekend or something, but I’m a provincial girl from a small country - there’ll be some gawking, you know? Still, FA made the decision much easier…

What did you decide?

I decided on Vassar. Re-researching it reminded me why I applied in the first place. Vassar was my number one earlier on in the college selection process, but it moved down a little near the end.

I’m not going to Barnard :)

anybody updates on the waitlist front?

Yeah I haven’t heard anything, but I’m all the way out here in AZ.
