I just accepted my spot on the waitlist a day ago, but I have a somewhat (I think) unique situation. I was deferred EA to RD, and two RD applicants from my school were accepted at MIT. One is definitely not going to attend; she just applied to see if she could get in. The other might not attend depending on where else he got into. I heard that MIT rarely waitlists deferred applicants, so my question is: do I probably have a better shot than most at getting off the waitlist given my two circumstances?

The circumstances of people who were accepted at your school won’t affect your chances of getting off the waitlist.

If/when MIT decides to go to the waitlist, they will convene the selection committee again and discuss all of the waitlistees who chose to remain on the waitlist. No one has an advantage or disadvantage going in, and every person is discussed individually without regard to the decisions of other admits.
