Yesterday I recieved my letter from Boston College informing me that I have been waitlisted. I applied to many other colleges, some even more selective, such as Duke, Princeton, Yale, and Brown. Does a "waitlisted" response from Boston College indicate that my chances of acceptance to the other schools I mentioned are slim to none?

Some info about me:
GPA: 3.8
schedule: rigorous
SAT: 2170
class rank: 19/445
school type: public
homestate: New Jersey
gender: female
strong extracurriculars
strong essays

Hey, no not necessarily. It really may depend on the pool of applicants to the particular college you wanted to go in to. What major did you indicate an interest to? I wouldn’t worry, there is no set formula for guessing if one answer means that you will or will not get into the other schools. Wait and see if you get into your other choices. And besides, Waitlisting is a huge compliment! :)

I’m in the same situation! Waitlisted BC. I applied premed. Could that be it?

My D1 was deferred, waitlisted, rejected from BC, went to Conn Coll, applied to transfer without even telling me, was waitlisted and I was the one who mailed the letter she wrote saying she was no longer interested in BC…and guess what??? She got in!! So go figure!!

I was rejected from BC but accepted to Georgetown and Michigan. The problem is that BC sucks.

I think it gives you a good indication of how you’ll do at more selective schools.

ArKhAiK: Thanks for such a thought provoking assessment of BC. I am sure they are real sorry they rejected you now. You probably were more than qualified. They must have pegged u as a Georgetown type and wanted you to be happy & it appears you are. They were right all along.

It was intended as a joke. You might want pull out the stick a little bit.
