Daughter is an "alternate" at CMC and also has applied to Pitzer and Scripps. She loves the Claremont Colleges and seems a better fit for Pitzer than for any of the rest.

Any thoughts?

She has a 3.9 unweighted GPA with a heavy AP/honors load, plus a 29 ACT.

She's very involved, including starting an environmental movement in our community.

We're eager for the mail to arrive this weekend, hopefully with some great news.

CAdad - I don’t think CMC’s decision will affect any other 5C decision. My D was rejected from CMC, but accepted to Pitzer. She was a much better fit for Pitzer and, in hindsight, application to CMC was a mistake. Good luck!

I just got emailed my decision from pitzer, btw, it appears in junk mail so do check because you may have recieved it and not noticed like me. Well i got waitlisted at pitzer, funny thing is i got into CMC and recieved a personal assurance letter- not official from pomona today, so very strange strange. Pitzer was a better fit for me too though, so its really frustrating! I thought pitzer was the easy one…hmmm

strange, since Pitzer made a big deal about ‘mailing’ out all the acceptances–see FAcebook videos—never mentioned anything about using email as a way of notifying.

We’re overseas and no email notification at all yet. One other student here has received an email and she was accepted. Is Pitzer only sending email notification to international students who have been accepted and making denied and wait listed applicants wait for international snail mail? That would be kind of mean. My son’s received nada; nothing in his inbox or spam. No idea what’s going on.

Got a kick out of the Facebook photos/videos. Strange week for our daughter, who was accepted at two UCs (Cal and UCSB) and waitlisted at two privates (CMC and GW) in a four-day span. Let’s see if the week can end on a high note.

TingNa - we are international as well and my D received her acceptance letter via snail mail - no email notification at all. This was is in '08, so it’s possible things have changed since then. Out of eleven schools, Pitzer was the last she heard from.

Hey all,
the email was just was your typical decisions letter, telling me i’m waitlisted and what to do from then on. Though it said decisions are being mailed off now, and it may take longer as i don’t live in the states. So maybe they do only send emails to internationals so they don’t have to wait ages to recieve a decision through the mail. There was no link to a website, i don’t think they release decisions online because through this whole process, i was never sent an id or log in.

Anywho, good luck everybody, hope i was helpful

Well, we seem to have become an “administrative glitch”. I verified with the Admissions office that they had already sent out all international responses via email whether the applicant was admitted, denied or wait listed. Still nothing. They definitely have his email address because we corresponded during the process. It’s not showing up in SPAM either. He’s heard from all other schools and has been accepted at one his top choices but he’d still like to hear from Pitzer since he’s still quite interested in them and would like to stop by to take a look. We’re already planning a trip to the east coast to look at his other school and don’t even know whether to include Pitzer. What in the heck happened? He’s sent them an email so maybe we’ll know SOMETHING soon. Has anyone else fallen through the cracks after Admissions has assured you that you belong to a group that has definitely been notified with no exceptions? GEEZ!

TingNa - it might depend on which email program/service you are using and how your junk mail filter is set. I recently did not receive some emails from the high school my son attends. The messages were sent to my Hotmail account. However, upon checking my junk mail filter, I saw that it was set to “delete suspected junk email immediately” or something like that. I changed the settings so that junk mail was not deleted for ten days. I get a lot more junk mail now, but at least I get the messages from my son’s school!

The community leadership is a really good aspect of her application, because from personal experience I don’t think they give a lot of weight to numbers. I was just waitlisted and I scored a 36 on my ACT and have a 4.2 weighted GPA. I don’t do an overwhelming amount of community service, though, and I didn’t really emphasize it in my interview.
