lol i think i was thinking of the university as a whole hahaha

BING121806 did you do anything to get off the waitlist? or did you just wait?

If you are accepted off of the wait list, do you still enroll with the rest of the class at the beginning of the year i.e. aug/sept? Or, are you offered enrollment in January?

There is no January enrollment for first year students at Columbia. Because of the core, you need to start in September. So if you are admitted from the wait list, you will start in September along with everyone else. Admission from the WL varies widely from year to year, and has a lot to do with the economy. At Columbia, the biggest factor in WL admissions is if HYP use their wait lists, which means some students will chose to go there...there is a trickle-down effect throughout the hierarchy of selective colleges.

Come on kids.....pick HYP! (smiles) Hoping beyond hope daughter gets in from the waitlist. Anything you could share of your actions, Bing, would be greatly appreciated.

It's got absolutely nothing to do with the economy. It's only a function of how many people enroll and whether they did a good job of predicting as much.

How does it make sense to waitlist 2000 people? Can't they just cut the list down to 300-500? I guess the majority of the waitlist are just polite rejections, eh?

That requires more work for them.

It's really more...healthy to see it as a polite rejection. Don't get your hopes up and have it crushed again; turn to the options that you do have, and maybe you'll get a pleasant surprise.

You never know, miracles can happen.

For anyone on the wait-list, the only thing you can do is to send a letter reiterating how CU is your first choice. But I suggest just moving on to another school.

The probability of being put on the wait-list and then being admitted is less than 1%.
