Hi, class of 2016. Man. Tonight was a long night. I got my sore butt rejected from my dream school, Yale, and then Brown as well, hmm hmm, but I am not disappointed, surprisingly. I feel like the rejection was for the best. I actually feel kind of giddy.

To my surprise, I got waitlisted at Princeton and Columbia. (wth @ Columbia. I deserved to be rejected; my supp was so terrible... really shows how much of a crapshoot this whole process is!)

Although I am so glad and relieved and thankflu to have the amazing option of Dartmouth, I would pick Princeton in a heartbeat, because of its interest and recent expansion in the arts department. (I want to major in visual arts.)

I was wondering who else was on the waitlist -- and what you guys were planning to do?

I was also wondering: if we get accepted off the waitlist, we'll we get the same sort of financial aid as others (so basically complete fa)? This is probably a stupid question, but I'm paranoid. I have a feeling that waitlisted applications will not be reviewed need-blind. Boohoo.

(Can I deem this an official wait-list discussion thread???)

I believe that you will receive the same offers for financial aid as people who were admitted RD and EA, and that the waitlist evaluation process is completely need-blind.

International student waitlisted. What would be the right thing to do? Should we badger the admissions office with emails about how much we want to go? Since Princeton is the only place I can afford to go in the US (for the finaid) its kind if my one shot. Will it make any difference if I tell them that?

Also waitlisted. Kind of honored, actually - I expected to be flat-out rejected. I already emailed my admissions counselor and told him how much I would love to go to Princeton, so I guess I can gauge my chances by how he responds.

I emailed my interviewer, but I don’t think he will have much influence in the decision. I am from Bangladesh, so it’s not feasible to call the school and ask who I should contact. Should I email the admissions office asking for someone I can talk to about additional recommendations and ECs? And is it possible to accept the waitlist position online? Post here is remarkably unreliable, so the wait list card they mentioned in the decision letter might not even reach me!

Funny. I am international too… I have lived here for 9 yrs though, so idk how that works, haha. Dartmouth still was so generous to me though. I’m thankful either way this turns out, but I would really really love to end up in Princeton.

Mayisha–Personally, I think you should ask the admissions officers via e-mail explaining your situation as you are also waiting for the actual wait list card! :)

btw did anyone think the letter was sooo extremely nice? I was like. tearing up. not really but I felt like they were patting my back through the screen.

@ogum: It was! They said that my credentials were so great that they couldn’t let me go…or sth along those lines. Compared to the Columbia waitlist letter, it was really sweet.

Thanks guys. If I send stuff to the admissions email directly, will it be taken into account? I really don’t want to delay, and show any disinterest. Can someone say exactly how unrealistic it is to think about getting off the waitlist, for internationals, especially south asians who rarely get picked?

Hey! I got waitlisted to Princeton and Columbia too! Great too see that I’m not the only one. I’m actually incredibly grateful since I also expected myself to be rejected. Got rejected from Yale though( but Princeton was my #1 so w/e). I’m thinking of contacting the admissions officer to see my weak points, and perhaps sending them an update of what I’ve been doing so far and emphasize on my continual interest in them.

You can’t major in visual arts, but you can major in the Art and Archaeology department with a creative certificate and thesis or with a split focus on art history and studio art (as opposed to exclusively art history).

Just FYI, in case that impacts your decision.

How do you guys think Princeton’s yield (and thus, how many are accepted off the waitlist) will be affected by the reinstatement of SCEA this year?

Well…I’m guessing (and this really is just a guess, as I am not a math person, really) that they’ll have a better idea of yield than they did last year. They only accepted 14 students off the wait list then. Since they should have already had an early estimation with SCEA of what their yield would be like this year, I’m hoping that their numbers will be more on target this spring and more than 14 of us will get off the wait list!

Waitlisted to Brown Columbia and Princeton. Anyone else?

Do you guys think that because of EA being reinstated this year the waitlist acceptance rate will go down drastically? It doesn’t seem likely that they’ll take us by the hundreds :/
