Hey, I just found out today that I was waitlisted at Princeton. I will not be staying on the list. I'm going to Stanford, which I applied to EA.

Now there's two less people to choose from. Good luck to you all, I hope you get into your dream school.

I've just read up a bit about waitlisting policies at colleges, specifically Ivy League schools. Some helpful info:
* Waitlistees are usually notified by early June as to whether they are accpeted or not
* There is a waitlist-waitlist list: some on the waitlist may not be accepted in June, but the college keeps of few of you on a second waitlist and if space becomes available, you may be admitted in early summer
* Demonstrated interest is important
* Phone calls are not recommended, sincere letters are welcome

I wonder if we are so lucky as to have only 300 people on the waiting list. That would probably get down to 225 after some leave the list, and if 80 or 100 are chosen from that list, then WOW.

On the other hand, it is probably more than just 300, and if it is so low, it may also be because they admitted significantly more people even considering the extra few slots this year. That considered, there may be few if any taken from the waitlist.

I think they did admit extra ppl this year .Princeton aims to have a class of 1220,out of which 590 came from the Ed round,so that leaves 630 ppl out of the 1241 offered admission.Assuming a yield rate of around 50%,that leaves around 20-30 ppl being accepted from the waitlist-which is still a rate of roughly 10%-if u assume that 30% of ppl will leave the waitlist

Last year's data set had about a 51% yield rate for regular decisions. That would lead to about 1223 people under this decision, more than what Princeton wants. If you consider probably 25 or so ED no shows (financial aid, etc.), then they have exactly the right number of people.

SO, lets hope that these numbers are wrong or the yield rate decreases dramatically.

It is serving as a distraction when I probably be focusing on choosing between Swarthmore, Dartmouth, Amherst, Middlebury, Georgetown, or Grinnell (Perhaps Franklin and Marshall).

Right, it is a big distraction---the process is not over as I had hoped it owuld be on 4/1...
My news is that Admissions tells me that THEY DO NOT RANK THEIR LIST. They reread everyone as if it is another round. Read into that what you will.

What is your situation, I have seen you in similar situations around the forums. So, what are you debating, it may be similar?

I've got to choose between Swarthmore, Middlebury, Dartmouth, Amherst, Georgetown, and Grinnell for equivilently half-the cost (I don't think I like any of the other offers as well).

Gianievve, right, I did NOT put my name on the Brown waitlist. If you aren't sincere about taking it, or at least seriously considering it, you shouldn't accept the waitlist.

Nickleby, deferred/rejected Yale, dinged H and Columbia, into MIT, Penn and D, w/l Brown and P, into UCLA Honors, Pomona, CMC. I don't qualify for fin aid but was i-viewed for a trustee schoarship (full tuition) USC so that is very tempting. (stuck in the abyss of middle class America!). It may come down to D vs. the USC bribe. That way my parents could pay for grad school for me and still get my 4 younger sibs through at the same time. Can't believe I find myself considering that over MIT and D after busting my butt for 13 years for a top tier admission. I am clearly very confused and this P thing only exacerbates it. I have state tests at school this week so I have lots of free time to sit around and get even more confused. Waiting on Stanford. That would solve everything! (?)

Whoa, I don't know my results right now(probably rejected or waitlisted) but aren't we supposed to inform the schools that've accepted us by early May whether we're gonna enroll or not? And if the wait list results come out at June... do you have to like give up everything(all the other schools you've been accepted) and wait to try to grab an open space that might not even exist? What happens if you turn out to be rejected? Try again next year? Pretty harsh...
