The admissions director at Washington University at St. Louis is not a crafty bald man. Quite the opposite, it is a very friendly woman, in case you'd like to recreate your vision. :-p hehe

Anyway, I'm not sure if it has been said before, but WashU wants people who really want WashU. And the best way to show that you want to be there is to visit the campus. That's one reason why they have those spots on the application to check off how you've heard about WashU. If you only decided to apply there because of its rank or because of what you read in a book, they would rather accept someone with weaker stats but greater interest.

Like all college admissions, it's still a craps shoot.

Yeah, I've heard similar stories about Washington University. One student was waitlisted from my school with "outstanding stats." The reason why Washington University does this is because it wants students who really want to go to the school. So, this school will indeed waitlist or even reject "academic superstars" in order to make room for students who show a genuine enthusiam for the institution. Another reason why Washington University does this is because the admissions officers don't want to waste an acceptance letter for students who seem like they would more than likely attend another school if accepted.

washU is known for waitlisting overqualified applicants to protect its yield...tufts syndrome and if I recall correctly this happened last year as well.

hey.. i got accepted at Northwestern, but waitlisted at georgetown.. my dream is to get into wharton. do you think the fact that i am from peru increase my chances of getting in? or will it act against me..

Yeah I just got waitlisted at gtown sfs after being deferred EA...I'm just hoping that penn, harvard, columbia, and princeton will see something gtown didnt. Anybody in this boat from last year wanna share their results?

How important is campus visit for Washington U? If WU wants people who really love it, why doesn't it have "why" essays? Why does WU rather judge on other things? WU doesn't even ask applicants about what other places they're applying. People with excellence do not deserve their punishment for their excellence at WU though, especially if they apply to WU for their first choice school.

Penn is more reasonable because it really admits ED people more than RD people, and it has "why essays". I'm curious if essays gonna help me get into Penn when (whatever make me) got into Tufts and rejected by WUSTL.

You always have the option of writing a "why" essay for colleges that use the common app, as WU does. I used my "Why Penn" essay, changed a setence here and there and completely revamped a paragraph (relating to my campus visit), and it worked. I tried it with Duke and it didn't work. Eh. You win some and lose some.

As for whether or not the essay (originally written for Penn) will click with Penn... we'll find that out tomorrow.

TenBelow, I was waitlisted by WashU and waitlisted by Duke..... but Penn is my top choice.... VERY nervous.... worried that I'm going to be rejected/waitlisted once more....
