I’m waitlisted for on-campus housing at UCSD. Anyone in the same situation? I was let in on appeal and they didn’t guarantee me housing. I signed up on the waitlist and it doesn’t look too good on getting a dorm when school starts. SO, is anybody else waitlisted and if so what are you going to do?

did you get a letter for housing?

i was also waitlisted and i havent heard anything from them. regular housing forms and deposits are due at the end of the month i think, if you applied on time that is. for waitlisted people it says they contact waitlisted people by mid-july. so since i'm waitlisted i just wait until july?

i'm not really sure what i have to do. hopefully they give me a spot.

Hey Brizzle -

How did you end up on the waitling list? Were you let in on appeal too? I was told the same thing, that they'd have a better idea on my waitlist status come the middle of July? Have you thought about what you would do if you don't get housing? I met a couple of people at orientation in the same situation. Maybe some of us can get together and find temporary housing until we get off the waitlist?

no, i didn't get in on appeal. i was just stupid and forgot about the deadline until it was like three days late (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=60963).

i'm in sixth, which is the college with the lowest student population, so i'm assuming it won't really be full. then again, i dont really know and it would suck if i don't get in.

if we're scrwed, then i dont know, i have no backup plan. i'll probably just live in a box on campus or something. lets make our own dorm haha. "seventh college"

have you called the housing dept.? i might email them soon to check my status. or i could just be keep being lazy and wait until mid-july.

I'm in Muir. I called the housing office a few weeks ago and I'm 8th on the waiting list for Freshman males. They gave me the same story as you . . . wait until mid-July. It will really suck if I don't get housing. Yeah, the 7th college dorms sound good!! If I don't get into the dorms I think I'm gonna try to find a temporary apt until the dorms open up. Don't want to live by myself so I'm hoping that some other people on the waitlist will want to room temporarily.

Did you go to orientation? Did you meet any other people that don't have housing?

Sixth's orientation is in September so no, not yet, and by that time I should already know what's up with my housing situation. They told me to wait until mid-July because the regular housing applicants still have to submit their contract at the end of June, so we'll see in July.

On the site I read that their very first priority for housing are incoming freshmen, so I guess that should give us some hope.

it is now mid/late july. have you contacted hds? i'm gonna give them a call tomorrow.

i dont want to be homeless

Hey Brizzle . . . I called and they still don't have an answer. They said they will have an answer on the 25th. If things don't look good by then, then us homeless people should band together and get something temporary until we get into the dorms. There must be other people in our situation. Just don't know the best way to find out who they are.

Brizzle - have you heard from housing yet? what college are you in and what's your number on the waitlist. i'm still homeless . . . hope they let me in soon.

awesome, they emailed me 'Congratulations! we have a spot for you'

I accepted, they sent me the personal history form and housing contract and I have to fill it out plus the $500 deposit and send it to them by their deadline.

I'm in sixth and thats where housing found a spot for me. I never was told what number I was (probably one of the first though). check your email, if not then keep bugging them I guess.

Good for you Brizzle. When did you hear from them? This week? Are you in 6th or is that just where they found you a dorm? I called housing yesterday and learned that I'm 5th on the Muir waitlist. Bad news is that Muir dorms are overbooked and they are not going to release any spots to the waitlist until they resolve their overbooking. If there are openings in other places then I may be placed somewhere else. I'm getting kind of nervious but they said that my waitlist number is low. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow and buy them again.

Also, where did they send your email? To the UCSD one or your personal email account.

they sent it to my ucsd account last friday. i am in sixth and i guess since sixth has the lowest student population out of the colleges there happened to be space.

i wouldn't worry about being screwed with no on-campus housing at all. they give the highest priority to incoming freshmen, which is us, and plus you're waitlist number is low. the only downside might be that you wont get a spot at the muir dorms, and even then it might be cool to stay in a dorm of one of the other colleges instead of your own.

Thanks. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I still sucks not knowing.

Brizzle - you really lucked out on the housing. Warren and Muir are the only 2 colleges that aren't overbooked. All the other 4 are overbooked and they won't let in people from the waitlist until they resolve the overbooking situation.

Just wondering...did any of you guys get a dorm in the end?

I ended up getting housing at ERC even tho I'm in Muir. They gave me a call a week before school started. I lucked out. Bad news is that I got a triple but it's better than I thought it would be. I got the bottom bunk and a real closet so I'm OK. I think a lot of people on the waitlist ended up getting in at the last minute. I know a couple of other people lower on the list than me and they got in.
