anyone know when we will be notified?

How did you end up on the waitlist? My son was on the waitlist last year and didn't find out until 1 or 2 weeks before school started. It was such a hassle. I learned a lot about the waitlist process for that whole experience.

Housing takes the waitlist and forms a separate waitlist for each college, and a general waitlist combining all the students. As openings open up at a college they will pull from their waitlist. Once a college exhausts their waitlist then they take people from the general waitlist. My son is in Muir but was assigned to ERC housing (a triple).

Housing always has more students than rooms. They don't let anyone in on the waitlist until they resolve the overbooking. They know that some people will drop out. Last year they waited to see who did not send in their $500 in July. If someone forgets to pay they lose their housing. They also wait for admissions cancellation, rescinded admission, etc. to see who else they can eliminate. When they resolve the overbookings and have available rooms they will start picking off the list one by one. Last year they started in late July. Sometimes there are openings after school starts. So, if you don't get housing before school starts you may want to something temporary there's an opening.

Good luck!

I got an email from SD saying that they can't help us with on-campus housing and that they can only help us with off-campus =/

yup and its friggin gay

WINTER MALE FRESHMAN ADMIT CONTACT NETWORK

You are receiving this email because you are currently listed as a winter male freshman admit to UCSD. Due to a high enrollment in fall 06, we do not expect rooms to be available before school starts in January. We apologize for not being able to help you with an on-campus room. What we can do is help bring you together as a group since you are all in the same situation: Needing to find Off-Campus Housing.

Do you give us permission to share your Name and Email Address with other winter male freshman admits?

Please respond to this email with a YES or a NO. All students of one gender who reply with a YES will receive another email with a list of shared contact information. You can send a group email to them asking questions such as who lives in your zip code; you can get telephone numbers, screen names, MYSPACE profiles, etc.

screw ucsd housing because they dont build more housing like irvine

That is the same email that they sent to my son last year. In August he received a contact list with other people on the waitlist. A lot of the people on that list received housing because of missed contract deadlines, deciding not to go to UCSD, rescinded admissions, etc. Don't be discouraged by the letter. Someone from Muir housing had told us that people usuually get housing, but not necessarily before school starts. Just depends on # of spaces. Even if you have a low number on the waitlist you maybe OK because a lot of people drop off the waitlist and get off-campus housing. My son was something like #14 on the Muir waitlist and ended up getting in. We were going to arrange temporary housing w/ another guy on ther waitlist so that when spots opened up they could just up and leave for the dorms. BTW, both of them got housing and ended up rooming together at ERC.

thx for the soothing words, but i still doubt there will be any room :)

how do you know what number you are on the waitlist? and will ucsd take you off the waitlist if you say YES and ask for a list of other off-campus people?

You never know. Sometime in July housing should be able to give you your waitlist number. If you want to purse it, ask them you collge waitlist number and the overall waitlist number. That'll give you some idea of your chance. Last year it seemed like they started releasing many rooms around late August, early September. Hang on, you never know. Don't commit yourself this early to off-campus options. Something may open up.

You can call housing and ask your number. I'm not sure if they will give you your number yet because it's still early. They're probably still trying to get their numbers together. You don't have to ask for a list. The people that respond to Cathy's email and say "yes" I want to be added to the list will be emailed the contact list. Last year the list came out the 2nd week of August. You remain on the waitlist until either you 1) get lucky and get a dorm space 2) ask them to take you off because you have made other arrangements.
