I was waitlisted at CMC and this was my top choice as of now... i still have hope and everything ..but what should a student do if he REALLY wants to go there?

i was accepted into UCLA and that's probably my second choice...but if i dont find out before may 1st (UCLA deadline) do i go ahead and accept UCLA? Can i later go and take it back if i do get into CMC?

is there anything i should do while i wait?

Yes, you would submit your deposit to UCLA before the deadline, and if you are admitted to CMC, you would notify UCLA that you intend to enroll in another school.

Thanks. Is there anything i could do while i wait? or do i just wait?

Contact your area rep and let them know that CMC is your top choice. (They are out of the office until Monday so don’t expect a quick reply.) Do you have a card from a tour guide that you have kept in contact with or an overnight host? How about a coach or professor contact? It would be worth a try to go back and restate your case to anyone that might go to bat for you asap. You don’t want to wonder ‘what if’ and CMC likes students that are proactive.

Good luck and congratulations on UCLA. You can’t lose!

Also, if you have any accomplishments that you think enhances your application since the time you submitted it, by all means write them a letter explaining this activity or award and restate your desire to attend CMC.

Thanks guys! should i call… write a letter…send an email?

also… how does the waitlist work? Do they accept people as people decline?

I would call and then write a letter. After May 1, they will see how many kids enrolled, and if there are still spaces left, they will begin to contact people on the waitlist. I would think this process should occur in early May.

D said to email your specific rep.

They were already getting a lot of phone calls before the actual decisions went out!

But hey, you can call too, if you’re so inclined. Sometimes it’s hard to know what is showing interest and when you are becoming a nuisance, isn’t it?

Like parent57 said, send in any new, significant info and be sure to deposit at UCLA! It will probably be at least after the May 1 reply date before there would be any waitlist movement.

They also have to deal with transfers.

Hello, I was waitlisted too and CMC was one of my top choices too. When writing a letter, do you simply state reasons why you are interested in the school? What else should I include?

Also, since there are so few spaces, is it unlikely they’ll draw from the waiting list?

Opendoorss, at this point, no one can really tell you how many spaces will be available for the waiting list. You just have to wait until May before you will know. Obviously, you will need to submit a deposit to another school to cover all contingencies.

The first thing I would do is make it clear to them that you will definitely attend if you are taken off the wait list. You could give them some reasons for this, but I would not rehash your application. As I said above, elaborate on any new information since the submission of your application that will add weight to your candidacy. Since you’re on the waiting list, they obviously think you are qualified and a good candidate for CMC. Whether you should send a letter or email, I will refer you to critter’s post on this thread. Good luck.

Getting off the waitlist is not very promising at CMC. Here are the waitlist stats for the past five years - http://www.claremontmckenna.edu/ir/cds.php

Year - Applicants waitlisted, Accepted a place on waitlist, Admitted from waitlist:

2010 - 905, 384, 0
2009 - 874, 303, 24
2008 - 511, 222, 0
2007 - 852, 344, 0
2006 - 648, 279, 0

From what sarsfield posted, and what I copied/pasted from online, it doesn’t look like they update their stats. Makes me question what else is in error (and this goes for all schools)

Our letter:

Three years ago, for example, we later offered admission to 29 students who had originally been placed on our Alternate List. Two years ago we took 19 students off the Alternate List. Last year we took none.

I have been waitlisted as well and i’m actually quite happy as i wasn’t even expecting to be considered
does it make a difference if i show up at cmc and explain how much i want a spot?
chances seem to be quite small so i’m not going to get my hopes up

what is an area rep? what if i’m an international student writing a letter who should i address it to? or should i just email it to the admissions email cause i can’t seem to find out what everyone else’s email address is… (i have been waitlisted as well)

I have the same question as beatit93.

Where do we find our area rep? I am waitlisted too and I can’t find my rep on CMC’s website.
