Here I thought I was going to get accepted instead I got punched in the stomach. However, I did give my safety school a deposit for housing but it’s not my top choice school. In the mean time, should I write to the school expressing my continued interest? I have no other application updates to offer, other than my desire to attend the school that wait-listed me. Would love to hear your thoughts. :-c
If you are certain that you would be able to attend your top choice school if accepted (i.e., can afford it, parents are on board etc.) then YES, write to them, let them know you would attend if accepted, and why you would be a good fit. Though you don’t have updates for them, perhaps you could include a short essay or other piece of high school work that you are especially proud of which you didn’t submit with your original application.
Do you have a coach, employer, pastor or other articulate person who knows you well that didn’t submit a recommendation with your original application? If so, you could ask them to send a letter to the admissions counselor now, explaining your attributes and why you would be a good fit for this school. Do you have a good relationship with your guidance counselor? If so, ask him/her to also write a letter to admissions vouching for your strengths.
This approach worked for DS. If you truly would be a good fit for your top choice school, it could work for you if they have openings on their waitlist.
