OP, first, enroll at one of the colleges where you have an acceptance. If you have received any awards or there is any pertinent new information since your mid-year report it’s fine to send that. You can always tell them you will attend if accepted (if your family can afford to do that.) The absolute best advice is to fall in love with another school and if you happen to get off the waitlist you can figure it out.

My son waited until the bitter end on the waitlist, enrolled in his backup school. Transferred after 1 year. The odds are very low in getting off the waitlist. Hopefully you have a backup you like. momofthreeboys gives good advice here.

Although 15,000 sounds very high, it is not unusual for universities to waitlist as many students as they admit. Michigan admitted 16,000 students last year, so waitlisting 15,000 is not that strange. Harvard and Princeton do it annually, even though their yield is higher and the odds of applicants accepting a spot on the waitlist and accepting an acceptance off the waitlist are significantly higher.

And if a kid is not plugged in on CC, how are they supposed to know that the waitlist basically means nothing?..I know Umich is not alone in this but I just don’t get it; never have, never will…

Just an update… I emailed my counselor at UMich and she said the class is essentially full. If they admit anyone off of it, it will be a very select group of people. If you were still hanging on to any hope, I would just move on at this point.
