Wait List

Ok so I got a ton of inbox messages regarding getting off the wait list so I decided I'll just make a thread about it.
1) Try to find a contact in admissions. Look through the directory, search the website, do whatever so you have a contact.
2) Send emails, letters, updated information, creative art projects to that contact or maybe admissions in general. Make sure they have to keep opening your file and adding new things in it so they will look at your file again.

Those are the two things I personally did. Did it work? I really cant tell you. I like to believe it did :). Michigan does take alot of kids off the WL though so it cant hurt to have them add stuff to you and look at you again. Other then that just hope for the best. Good Luck guys! And if you do get off remember a parka!

Thanks man. I'm shadowing a neurosurgeon and trauma doctor so would it be worth sending letters of recommendations written by them to umich?

Are you sure UMich is to use its WL this year? Anyone has any information?

People are given until the 15th to submit their acceptance of being on the wait list. Until then, we probably won't hear anything.

UMich generally has to go to the WL. Michigan is unfotunately used as a safety school to alot of the kids who expect to get into the ivies or top 20 schools.

Not at all flong. In fact, Michigan has not had to go to the waitlist in 4 of the last 5 years. The only exception was 2006. But this year looks like another year where Michigan will go to its waitlist. It has to do with caution. Most years, Michigan seem to underestimate its own appeal (as you did in the post above) and they accept more students than required. This year, as in 2006, Michigan accepted fewer students than required to make sure the yield does not pull another fast one! Once the University knows exactly how short they fell from their target, they will admit some from the waitlist.

Alexandre, how reliable are your sources that this year's admissions will probably be similar to 2006? I want to believe you =/

I have no "sources". I said that it "looks" like this year will be a repeat of 2006. I could well be wrong though. I know, it is unlikely since I am always right, but ***** happens! hehe!!

Alexandre, whether your words are true or not, I still believe that umich will not let us down. Life is full of hope! Wish all of us good luck!

I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for all of you on the waitlist.

Oh no, you've gotten me to start hoping when I had all but decided to move on

Lets hope your record for being always right remains unblemished!

Wait listed people for the win!!!

Domino Effect! is not going to spare any university this year. Latest news is Harvard to take more than 200 and not 150-175. All of us like this news!

I would definitely disagree with this statement, just like Alexandre does.

It's another good illustration why you can't believe everything you hear on a messageboard.

Ok, so if I have a video on the internet of a talent could I send them a link to that?

recommendation

if i received recom from Michigan Alumni, is it helpful to get off waitlist??

I don't think so.

should we send final transcripts once those are completed?

I called them like 5 min ago and they said that they are taking students of the waitlist this year. Unfortunately they have no ranking system so all I know is that I'm on the high priority waiting list. This is seriously annoying.

thanx for good information, elite
Then, don't you know how many they will take students from waitlist?
