I am not but I am an alum, my d currently attends. It is funny, I loved it before my d attended, now my feelings are mixed. Mac was not my d's first choice, she kind of landed there by default. There are some great things about Mac, the international flavor and exposure being one of them. Should you chose to go to Mac you had better be extremely liberal, and I mean extremely. My d is not and it has been painful for her in some ways. Before anyone jumps on me and asks why she went to Mac as a moderate we were told by admissions and others that Mac wanted more conservatives on campus since class discussions were boring since everyone has the same views. Supposedly admissions was making a concerted effort to bring more moderates and conservatives to campus. Either they went elsewhere or they are afraid to voice their opinions, which is understandable based on some of the responses my d has received. She is also not loving the "city" of St. Paul but being from Chicago I do not know if she would have thought anywhere compared except L.A. and New York - this feeling is common for kids from big cities. The twin cities are nice but they do not compare to the likes of NYC, Chicago, and L.A.. She should have seen that coming. I can't say that d has been overly impressed with her profs, or thrilled with her classes. She has had 2 profs she really likes. I am hoping some of that is because she is trying to get all of the requirements out of the way and once she gets into her major classses will find them more exciting. We had an issue with housing early in the year, I do not even want to talk about the experience with administration, not impressed. In all honesty, I would be happy if she transferred. I am paying the full cost, we received no aid, we are middle class. All that being said, she seems to be having fun and has made some great friends but she could have that for less than $46,000 a year at a state school.

My D was also waitlisted at Mac, although it was last year, not this year. She had outstanding stats & was accepted to Tufts & Vandy, among other great schools. Small LAC's "put together" their classes, so there is really no way to know whether or not a particular student will get in. It's truly a crapshoot. For those who are feeling the sting of being waitlisted, just know that there are plenty of other great schools. Things will work out!

People do get in off of the Mac waitlist. My S was waitlisted in 2006, but admitted to several other selective LAC's. He accepted the Mac waitlist but mentally moved on...in late May, Mac called and e-mailed both him and his HS guidance counselor...he was admitted and Mac wanted a 72 hour response. He declined to attend, having made another choice that he was comfortable with. He has no regrets...

Also waitlisted, i heard that sometimes overqualified students get in to watilist. Is it true?

I'm pretty sure Mac doesn't suffer from Tufts syndrome. They are really big on diversity, though, so (I don't know about you, though, CradleOfFilth) they might shy away from taking too many white middle class females, even if they do have great scores and everything.
