Waitlisted.

seaboy-no i haven’t actualy sent the e-mail yet haha i’m trying to word it so it doesn’t seem like im complaining too much or being annoying, etc. i don’t want to flag myself as someone who won’t leave them alone, but since he specifically told me to contact him again if i have questions i think ill be ok…

anyone else talk to a counselor lately?

mcf11- i am out of state. I’m sure thats the only reason you haven’t been taken off the waitlist already since I remember seeing your stats and they’re pretty much = to or better than mine.

my college counselor informed me today he would be “shocked” if the OOS tuition did not rise at least 14% like instate. Most likely it will in fact rise more. This pretty much eliminates UW for me because LMU is about 5,000 cheaper already for me with my scholarship and after the increases, might be as much as 18,000 dollars cheaper. So one of you can have my spot :)

rarara-well i am sorry to hear that the tuition increases are going to affect everyone so much, the economy literally screwed everyone over. on the bright side, one of my friends is going to lmu and she just raves about it every single day so i’m glad you have a solid, less expensive school that you are also excited about :)

Ok so Mcf11 I came up with an theory…they need to accept OOS earlier because the housing deadline is the same as the reply date deadline-May 1st…SO it makes sense why they have to admit OOS before then because where will they live since they are new to the area? I just came up with the idea…Mcf11 if you can throw any suggestions out there that’d be great…or if anyone else would like to comment on go ahead!

seaboy- hmmm that is quite possible haha idk what the policies are in general for housing and such for waitlisted people, but maybe you’re right that they need to decide oos first to give them a shot? idk if they hold spots for waitlisted people or what but your theory is definitely a possibility haha

idk what else it would be…maybe they just want to know how much money they are going to get from oos people? with the tuition increases for in-state, they aren’t as worried about not accomodating the same number of people as the past year or two, but depending on how many oos accept they might be able/willing to accept a few more in-state if there aren’t a lot of oos accepting? cause 2-3 in-state equal 1 oos or something like that, depending on the individual situations… i hope that made sense haha

yeah it did make sense thanks…though tuition seems to playa a part like you said…I wonder how many OOS accepted before or just off the waitlist are still deciding to go after increase in tuition? Its certain for OOS too but not sure how much is the scary part…

yeah, i was surprised at what rarara said about how their counselor straight up said tuition is pretty much guaranteed to increases 14% like in-state, and most likely more. idk if you remember but much earlier in this thread a mom posted about how she and her oos daughter had to withdraw enrollment and the counselors said people had been dong that ever since it was announced that tuition was going up but wouldn’t be for sure decided until maybe july…

WOW july!!! OMG thats torture! its like you an ultimatum for OOS students deciding about tuition…

yeah i know it would suck so bad to be oos haha like right now i think oos is about 36,000-38,000 or so, at least those are the last numbers i heard. but that means if tuition goes up by 14% each year the next two years, that is literally thousands and thousands of dollars. i think tuition alone is about 25,000 right now; 14% of that is 3,500 and that counselor rarara spoke to said it is quite likely it will go up much more than that. people could be paying 40,000+ before they know it. screw the economy haha

Omg thats horrible!!! The economy sucks big time…

Wow that sucks… suck for me too cuz i have an older brother who goes to a really expensive private school(Swarthmore) and its draining my parents hard earned money. Idk but the tuition increase for even instate seems kind of bad for me…

Almost May 1st… im kind of nervous just thinking about it, hopefully there is still some room available after.

btw, in-state here.

oh thanks returning, that is nice to know. im just afraid they are only letting in a few in-state cause they want the money from oos people…ughh.

Its MAY 1st! does anyone have news regarding waitlisted students?

i just got accepted off the waitlist, but dont think ill attend because of tuition/travel expenses. i reallly reallly reallly wish things were different. its either be 140,000 in debt or only have to pay 12,000 for a full college tuition. thats another spot open from the waitlist! good luck to you guys

ah tecu im sorry, all of us here know how much you wanted it. seriously, the economy is screwing everybody over and its so not fair to any of us. good luck at wherever you are going!

anyone have an update on waitlisted students?

Yeah I have a waitlist up date in my own mind.

Last week UW emailed ALL the waitlisted acceptances to all students they had “prioritised”. Those students came from the list that the UW web site says doesn’t exist Per “Students on the waitlist are not rank ordered (for example, 10th on a list of 100)”. If they didn’t have such a priority waitlist how come the 28/29th April acceptance email was sent out to relatively few students ?

Most of those students are OOS because they can pay full ride and keep President Emmert and his dept.in the fat salaries they have refused to lower. (see his May 1st blog post)

The only logical answer about why the 29th/30th acceptance email that was sent out, is those few recipients are the ONLY ONES accepted off the waitlist.

There is no ongoing rolling review of applications because UW admissions have had the waitlist applicns for months now. Those few already told are in. End of story.

They lied about reviewing applications until end of June. They lied about going deep into the waitlist, because basically there is no money for any more places.

All the UW admission staff is doing now is printing out 950 rejection letters.

And nobody at the UW admission offices has the stones to answer the phone or post anywhere on the internet with an explanation of what is really happening. If you think that anybody in that office of gutless weasels gives a rats a*s about telling the truth or caring about students you are living in a fantasy land.

And if you don’t believe me, get anybody to ring up the UW admissions tomorrow morning and say very simply "It’s May 4th, you know how many deposits and acceptances you have received. You know the budget you have received from the state and therefore places you have available, you know how many students you put on the waitlist, NOW DO THE SIMPLE MATH AND TELL ME HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL BE ADMITTED OFF THE WAITLIST "?

Or even better, confirm with them that they have already dumped the waitlist in the trash and are preparing 950 rejection letters.

Best of luck getting an answer.

i actually do plan on sending an e-mail to the uw counselor i have been speaking with, either tomorrow or on tuesday, basically asking what on earth is going on, since the may 1 deadline hadn’t even passed yet before they so slyly accepted oos and international students from the waitlist, thinking the rest of us wouldnt notice. he has been pretty helpful so hopefully he will give me some answers. i already wrote the e-mail and i straight up said your director of admissions gave us three pieces of information that said we would start hearing june 1, so why all of a sudden are people getting admitted but you didn’t tell us you decided to change everything you told us? when (if) he responds ill be sure to let everyone here know.
