anyone know how many people are on the waitlist and how many usually get in?

A lot of people get waitlisted, not many come off of the waitlist.
Every year admissions has a predicted number of students that will accept their admissions offer. The university only has enough resources for a fixed number of students. So, admissions will use the prediction to accept a certain number of students, keeping in mind that some will not accept the offer to attend. This past year, for example, their prediction was off a bit more than normal. More students than expected accepted their admission offer to attend, resulting in, basically, overpopulation. In a case like that, I would assume that only a couple, if any, students came off of the waitlist.

Obviously, it can go the other way as well, with less students accepting their offer to attend, causing a need to bring in more students off of the waitlist to fill the class.

By the end of April, most students will have responded to accept/deny their invitation, so that is why they tell you that’s when you would hear about coming off of the waitlist.

thanks for the info…april is pretty early to hear…the other school i got waitlisted at doesnt get back to me until june

I was waitlisted as well, but i got admissions to GWU, and American University, I am still waiting for a few more but I am not sure whether I should take the waitlist or not

I think I read that last year like 12 got in off the waitlist

Fall 2009:
43 admitted from waitlist

Fall 2008:
7 admitted

Fall 2007:
72 admitted

Fall 2006:
2 admitted

Fall 2005:
0 admitted

Fall 2004:
123 admitted

JohnAdams, thanks for the numbers. Do you know how many were actually waitlisted each year? How’d you get ahold of the stats?

sweetpetite, sweetpetite, sweetpetite, the details for each year are in the link that I provided, section C.

for instance, for 2009-10 the figures were:

Number of qualified applicants offered a placed on waiting list - 3226
Number accepting a place on the waiting list - 1160
Number of wait-listed students admitted - 43

Wow, that number from last year is surprisingly high. Basically, you never know. If you are waitlisted, do as I said and keep showing strong interest. I don’t mean email every day and beg, but send a couple emails saying that you are still interested, and that if you are accepted you will attend.
