So, I was waitlisted at Wesleyan, which surprised me. Based on the numbers I thought it was a good match but I guess not as great as I thought. I'm still dying to go there and my interview went really well (it was with an alum) so I was wondering if emailing her would be appropriate. I don't want to be an inconvenience to her or seem pushy but I was trying to decided if I could get away with emailing her to tell her I was waitlisted and basically ask for suggestions (and hopefully she'd help plead my case).

In my opinion this is a bad idea. Your interview with her probably did go well but I don’t think alumni interviews carry that much weight with the admissions committee. They can’t, there is no uniformity. There are too many different alumni conducting the interviews.

From what I’ve heard you should write a letter to the admissions committee pleading your case and send them any new information about you. You might also want to call and find out how many people are on the waiting list. Then find out historically how many people they have accepted off of the waiting list. That will give you some sense of your odds. I’m sorry, I know you are disappointed.
