Has anybody been accepted off the waitlist yet? Or put into a summer waiting list? I still havent received anything as of yet. I called the admissions office, and they said that they would be glad to notify the other members that I am interested in attending Wesleyan if I get accepted. Also, do you receive an email if you get off the waitlist, or do they mail by post?

i heard about two weeks ago. Apparently Greg Pyke called my sister (who goes to wesleyan) asking for my cell number (I don't have a cell phone), he then called my parents while my sister called my best friend, so basically everyone found out before I did! But he also e-mailed me...
When I heard I was waitlisted I...
-sent a letter to admissions telling them more about myself and why I wanted to go to Wes
-my sister wrote a letter (yea most of you can't do that, sorry...)
-emailed the Geology dep't chair (my probable major)
-my guidance counselor called
-I sent my third quarter grades and additional senior year awards
-got another letter of recommendation from my physics teacher

I basically worked my ass off and kissed everyone's butt in admissions, but it worked! (oh, btw I was waitlisted at five schools and I emailed the geology dep't chairs at each one. The head at Conn College and the head at Wesleyan were the only ones that emailed me back and they were also the only schools at which I got off the waitlist. I think that was key.)

no it was just an additional rec....the first one from her.
In my letters to the department heads I basically was like, I love this school esp. the your Earth adn Earth Sciences dept, if you need any more Geo majors...you know what to do ;) haha so yea i think it worked cuz think about it- if you were an admissions officer dealing with the wait list and a dept chair told you they needed more majors in thier dept you would obviously accept someone with that intended major.

susie22,
My daughter (rising hs senior) is planning to major in Earth Sciences/Geology as well. Any recommendations for good extracurricular activities that will help her learn more about the area? She's been trying to volunteer with our local USGS but hasn't had much luck.
Thanks and congratulations on your Wesleyan acceptance! Wesleyan is one of my daughter's top choices as well. Would you mind if she PM'd you next year to get more information about the Earth Sciences department and life at Wesleyan?

Good luck to you and congratulations again!
