i read another post stating that people who were waitlisted have to express their decision on whether to remain on the waitlist or to be taken off the list. i never read anything like that on UWSTL. website., do we have to tell them now?

When you get your letter saying you are waitlisted, like I was, one of the masses, they include a postage paid Wait List Reply Card, that you need to mail back by May 1. Or you can reply by e-mail at admissionswaitlist.wustl.edu by May 1.

I had NO IDEA how many people were on their waitlist until I read all these posts! This stinks, a NO would almost be better than a Maybe, especially if there is so little chance. Hard to move on.

I called Admissions, and they said they could not tell me how many people are on the waitlist, because they do not even have the list made until they get the responses back.

Maybe my mistake was not spending like $1,000 to travel there and visit to show I was serious about them. I told them at this point, we do not want to waste the time and money to tour unless I get in. Will there be time for that, if I get the call that I am accepted off the list? They said that beginning like the 2nd week in May, they will evaluate what, if any, openings they have. If they need another Architecture student, they go to the waitlist and select an Arc app. The admission person calls and offers you a spot. By the next day they want an answer, but they allow up to a week or so for the commitment. They keep going like this until possibly as late as the end of June, or whenever all their spots are filled, and at that point you get a definite No, sorry.

Is this what others have been told about how it works?

i read on another post that if you get chosen to be accepted off of the waitlist, you have to attend. is this true???

adamo, this is how it was explained to me....

If they call you off the waitlist, they want an answer quickly, like in 1 day to a week at the most. But at that point, you have the choice to tell them yes or no. If you say yes you still want in, then you have to complete their letter of admission, and WITHDRAW FROM OTHER SCHOOLS, and lose those paid deposits. They say to be sure to send your acceptance (and deposits) to another school, as insurance, since most schools require a decision by May 1, and you don't want to be left with nothing if the waitlist is a bust, which you won't know until late May or June.

I don't know what the deposit for wustl is, but I'm sure that would be due when you get accepted. So, Yes, if you are accepted off the waitlist, and you tell them YES, YOU STILL WANT TO ATTEND, then you have to attend. If you tell them no, that is also your perogative. But why would you stay on the waitlist if you do not want to go there? Are you just undecided?

I read somewhere that WashU has a pretty large number of students who were waitlisted yet got in. Maybe its because of the fact that its a "safe" school for supersmart uber kids (not me of course).

Anyways, Good luck to your waiting.

thanks, premier. i chose to stay on the waitlist in case i dont get acccepted to my number one school (which i should know on thursday). i would not mind attending wustl, as it used to be my number one choice; i even thought of doing ED there.
