If I was wait listed by College A and they want to know how long to keep me on the list, can I request that they keep me on while putting in my deposit at College B and going through that process?

If I submit my deposit and reply by May 1 for College B and am then accepted into College A that wait listed me what would the process look like for “switching”? I know I wouldn’t be getting my deposit back…but I could still attend College A right?

I just don’t really understand how they would say "Oh well you’re on a waitlist, so just make up your mind to stay on the wait list and have the chance of not going to college next year OR get off the wait list and etc…

Clarification on the wait listing process please…

Generally, I think the idea is that you put in your deposit at a school, and then if you get into the school that you are waitlisted at, you forfeit the deposit you made at the other school and enroll at the waitlist one.

^This. You may also decline the offer of admission if accepted off the waitlist.
