Yep - Russian Roulette in the morning, begging for nothing in informed delivery. Only strange thing is, like I said before, two students in our town heard on Monday (I yes, 1 no), so just strange
wondering if those 6 day from postmarks were all acceptances? Seems like strong students here who are waiting and an 8X11 piece of mail would take longer to arrive than an automated business class envelope? Glass half full approach…
It was worse for ED bc we didn’t hear anything for almost 9 weeks from application being submitted, and many ppl on CC said they heard in 4-5, so we went through the informed delivery/mailbox routine for at least 3 weeks! It was torture.
I was waitlisted, and I hope this is valuable information for those in the future. I’m attending elsewhere.
Decision Plan: Regular
Major: Music (didn’t need an audition)
OBJECTIVE:
-Unweighted GPA: 3.98 / 4
-Weighted GPA: 4.58 / 5
-That is about half my classes as honors or AP. All As except one B sophomore year.
-6 AP. 14 honors.
-My school does not rank, but I know that I am right around 65 of my class of 720.
-ACT: 36 (36, 36, 34, 36) One sitting. Sent in this score!
-SAT II: None.
-AP Exams: Junior year was United States History (5), English Language (5) and Music Theory (5). Senior year will be Environmental Science, Psychology and Calculus AB.
-From large public school in a rather well-off community in suburban Midwest. Sends lots of students to top 30 schools and the likes. Female, white.
EXTRACURRICULARS:
-Top musician in state on my instrument, invited to state music education conference for two years in a row, honors ensembles both times. Played at regionals for three years, upward trend.
-Help out some of my teachers during my free period. I teach underclassmen, and I think I mentioned in my application that I want to go into education.
-Marching band section leader for three years, did marching band for four years, top concert band and orchestra for three years. Pit orchestra for three years.
-Two-time Camp NaNoWriMo winner. Wrote a novel in a month.
-No employment.
HONORS:
-National Honors Society, state commended, Top Scholar at school, AP Scholar, etc.
-Outstanding achievement in Spanish and physics junior year.
LETTERS:
-One letter of recommendation from United States History teacher. Could have been okay, or good, as she’s a strong writer but didn’t know me that well. (7/10)
-Other letter from my Spanish teacher who adored me! (9/10)
-Letter from band director, that my counselor and I mailed in. Apparently one of the best letters my counselor has seen in a while. (10/10)
-Counselor was vouching for me. She’s also very articulate in her writing. (8/10)
ESSAYS:
-Common App essay was about regional and state music as mentioned above, about learning from mistakes/failure. It sounds a lot like a cliché “sports injury” story, except about dropping my instrument. (8/10)
-Supplements were thorough. My top ten list was about the top orchestras and conductors worldwide. Another essay about The Martian, one about Jesus Christ Superstar, one about helping out a special needs girl on a school trip. And I was still waitlisted. (9/10)
Congratulations if you got in, hang in there if you’re accepting your waitlist spot and good luck in the college search to everybody else!!
Live in last town in CT before NY. Still no mail - good bad or indifferent
@xviiclassofxix It seems yours could be yield protection, as they may see you more as easily to get in 20-30 ranked schools at least.
@Jm6844 how frustrating! I don’t get why they don’t just send via email!
@SatKam Possibly. With similar schools, I was rejected by WashU and Rice and deferred by Michigan (still no word). They might look at that 36 and top 10% of class and think I’m going Ivy, but I am actually attending a public school!!
I will say I got into Emory with a scholarship, which was cool. Just not my thing.
I doubt they even go to the waitlist this year since last year they didn’t
@SatKam I think Wake is ranked 27 in US News.
@xviiclassofxix You sound very impressive. It’s hard to know how and why they make decisions. I have no doubt some other great colleges will want you.
Yield Protection XVII. which is just plain idiotic in this case
To be clear, I’m okay with it! I was just providing some statistics, because there’s often a belief that a perfect/near-perfect test score is a big boost in admissions.
To anybody else who was waitlisted and rejected, you will find your place and your people!
@WestchesterMommy if your mail is anything like I remember (I’m originally from Westchester and my family is still there) yours is slower than mine here in North Jersey so maybe tomorrow. Good luck!
I got my black and gold envelope today! Go Deacs and good luck to those still waiting!
Awesome Isufan4301!! Happy for you. where are you from again?
TX!
Isufan, you’d go wake over Texas?
It’s a decision, for sure. I’ve never really wanted to go to UT, and I like both Wake and Michigan much better. That being said, when taking cost into consideration, I may choose Texas, but we’ll see.
I’m so sorry that this is so frustrating hoping for good news for you all still waiting!!
Jm6844, I am from Danbury–received nothing–desperately waiting
