Sending out good mojo to the handful still waiting for a decision. No little white envelopes today, only big gray, black and white ones. Let us know when you get the good news.
Michigan was supposed to come out at midnight but never did - a lot of upset students, my s could care less at this point.
@citymama9 Re post #535. Glad you pointed that out. That was exactly the only issue S was concerned about prior to committing in 2017. We are a public school family, have never been a member of a country club, etc. (no judging, just the facts) So S was thinking expensive private school would mean a lot of private school kids, snobby, etc.
There are a lot of private school kids (and public), but not snobby or snooty at all. He has found Wake to be a very inclusive, friendly, social community. I’ve actually asked him about that very issue and he says it’s a non issue. He has friends that receive plenty of need based aid and others that could pay for several kids. You wouldn’t know it by talking to the kids. He realized it wasn’t that type of place at Admitted Students Day and has never looked back.
My s was waitlisted at Michigan which is awesome because:
A lot were flat out rejected
We REALLY love WF and didn’t want to make that decision.
When the rest of this group get their fantastic Friday decisions we all have to find a way to connect and stay in touch. This way, when the kids commit to Wake we can all meet, introduce the kids and parents.
@Jm6844 In addition to Admitted Students Day, there are local receptions held around the country for that very reason. Typically a local alum will sponsor an event. At ours, there were admitted students and parents, some local alumni, and a group of current students. It was great. A combination of mixer and info session as the current students sat on a panel and answered questions for about 30 minutes. There was one prior to enrollment deadline day and another in the summer.
UGG - my son had the same reaction to getting WL at Michigan today - he was kind of happy he wouldn’t have to decide between the two. Michigan would have been a decision of the mind, while Wake a decision of the heart.
@UGG2023@Jm6844 same here. Daughter didn’t get into Tufts but Wake was #1 so not as big a disappointment. And since she wants to go to campus day and joined the Facebook group, I think I see a lot of gold and black in my future!!
Awesome 2Kidz - Wake is such a nicer campus than Tufts. I love Boston, but Tufts is in a bit of a rough neighborhood. I bought way too much Wake merchandise on Amazon last night!!
@Jm6844 oooh didn’t even think of Amazon, just figured I’d be leaving my wallet there on the 12th bc of all the merch ?. Now I know how I’m spending my lunch break! ?
CT Mom of 2 - let us know when you get the good news today. No small envelope in USPS notification I’m guessing? btw, my s’s large envelope arrived with absolutely no forewarning on USPS, so, what everyone said is correct. They actually delivered it with packages to the front porch, not to the mail box. So my s was a bit discouraged with nothing in the mail then crazy happy when he got to the house

Wow - UGG, you’ve been busy!! What did you think about Tulane and w&m as those are two that we have in common. The one negative of Wake as they don’t give out scholarships like Tulane, for the most part. We’ll be giving a lot of money away choosing Wake over Tulane. I think you can present your scholarships from other schools to Wake’s Application office, but, who knows if they’ll match??
@rickle1 Exactly! The stereotypes make you think that everyone will be uptight and snooty. My daughter was telling me that she is talking to the friendliest and sweetest people. Another thing is that all these kids are thrilled to be going to Wake and thrilled to meet each other. There’s already a lot of pride. She has friends going to other schools, and I don’t think they are chatting or following each other on insta yet.
As for the Groupme. I will let you know how to do it when my D gets home from school.
You all probably know this, but I see Tufts and Michigan mentioned. I looked at the US News recently, and Wake, Tufts and Michigan are all tied for #27, fwiw
