Wake Forest RD Class of 2023

2kidz - yeah weather looks good for us - 70s, partly cloudy. My s may commit if he gets a good vibe. Tulane with a nice merit scholarship is enticing though

@meremere28 Congrats and welcome to the Forest!! @UGG2023 wishing you luck on your decision.
To those of you going next week have a great time!!

@meremere28 Congrats! @Jm6844 glad to hear. My daughter is in a similar place, wants to see once more but may commit although Brandeis gave a nice merit scholarship, which she is considering.

Despite the rain, my daughter and husband had a great experience. They were impressed with everything and everyone. My husband was with my daughter a lot, but she did meet up with kids that she has been chatting with. I strongly suggest that you have your kids join GroupMe or Facebook. From there I think kids break up into smaller group on Snap Chat. It’s a great way to have a group of friends before school starts. I can tell you that these kids and their parents (from what I heard) are so friendly. Just reach out. Everyone is wanting to make new friends so it’s easy. If your kids aren’t the social media types then no doubt they will make friends in Aug. For some kids it’s just reassuring to “know people” beforehand.

The visit was informative. A lot of things happen at the same time in different places with many visitors and since the dorm tours took forever (we wasted 30 min just waiting to go on one tour), we didn’t get to attend two events we wanted to go to. Also, the podium discussion in the afternoon was a bit too rehearsed for my taste.

DD has now committed to Wake, we paid the deposit yesterday.

For those who committed, did you get any form of confirmation? I see the charge on my cc, but no communication like an auto-generated email. Nothing in spam either.

@adog10 did you get the FA info? Still didn’t receive anything here but if it is like the admission letter mine will be on the later side lol! I would like to have something before we go to campus day. I don’t have informed delivery.

I don’t know if it helps, we got our FA letter on Thursday, 4/4. As expected we got zero $

I asked my husband for more details about the visit. Although he loved the school he felt that the day could have been done differently. He thought smaller break out groups would have been good. There were lots of hours spent sitting in big auditoriums. Overall though he felt like it was a beautiful and safe place to spend 4 yrs. Only concern is that the workload will be very intense based on some people he spoke to.

@FromColatown where are you located? I’m thinking I should get something this week…

South Carolina, about 3 hours drive from Wake.

We agree, smaller breakout groups for students and parents would have been better, along with less auditorium time. Would have liked to attend more academic sessions and seen both dorms (we only had time to see 1)

Our FA letter (CT) came Thursday also. Got 0 as expected and they said they don’t match merit scholarships from other schools. They seem to concentrate a lot on need based grants and basically have very limited merit scholarships, which I’m okay with. Anybody who gets into Wake should be able to go to Wake…

Okay well SC is closer than NJ but Wait if @Jm6844 got yours I should have received something, right?! ? Maybe tomorrow. She should at least get something for being a national merit finalist since she put Wake as 1st choice. If I don’t receive anything before Thirs I can always go into FA on Friday. Yeah, I heard they don’t match merit which is too bad bc it is one of the reasons she liked Brandeis (Merit $ - worked hard all 4 years, feels like it was a “good for you” thing).

@UGG2023 My daughter saw Johnson and South. South was the fancy dorm. Johnson had a nice lobby, but the rooms were very small. Seems like they showed them the best and worst.

Re the workload at Work Forest. Regardless of major, it is demanding. The core itself is demanding. You would expect that at a highly selective school. Definitely true that kids who are used to just getting As in HS will enter a new world, where in some classes they’ll be ecstatic to get a B. That said, it’s all doable.

Per S ('21), it just takes being organized, structured, and focused. Most kids will get involved in a few ECs. In his case he has those, works part time, plays intramurals and a Club sport, and likes to go to the gym . With demanding courses he justs use a planner and blocks out times to study and get it all done. Not a lot of wasted time sitting around in between classes. WIthin his peer group, that’s the norm. He and most of his friends make Dean’s List each semester. Very doable!

I agree with what @rickle1 said above time management is key but it is totally doable. My son is also involved in several things and in the business school and makes it work.

Just throwing this out there as far as dorms go, my son was in South freshman year and yes it is a nice dorm but he felt some other dorms were more social/fun and Johnson was one of them. So there are pros and cons about all dorms. Rest assured they will find their people wherever they are placed.

Thanks so much @rickle1 and @lbf It’s always helpful to hear from those in the know. I think the big adjustment will not be having as much down time for Netflix and Youtube videos, both things my D does when ever she has free time.

It’s official, D choosing Wake!!

@UGG2023 Welcome to the Forest!!

Awesome UGG2023!! My s may be soon to follow??
