Honestly I’d rather get a decision sooner than later, and wouldn’t wait for them to sort out a scandal - perhaps it’s selfish of me to say this. And from their perspective, the yields could plummet if they delay notification to sort out a scandal. They don’t want to take the risk when they can just rescind down the road if they so choose.
@jimboschwartz why would they punish all incoming students for something one person did? The perpetrator is known and I’m sure any students he recommended have been scrutinized. For that matter I bet they re-examined all admissions this year to be thorough. I don’t know this for sure but knowing Wake it is a good bet. It would hinder all of those students who would then have a shorter time in making decisions. I know USC is not delaying their decisions and they had the most amount of students in this situation.
Not talking about USC, only Wake. At least USC intends to sever ties with students who benefited from the fraud. I take exception with the fact that President Hatch, after an apparent one day inquiry, has unilaterally decided to allow the offending student to remain at school. This tells me they are likely to overlook other offenders “down the road”. This is not the only major gaffe committed by President Hatch the last few weeks. The circumstances surrounding Dean of Admissions Allman are an entirely different issue that argues for postponement of the process. In my opinion, and I am not being selfish.
@jimboschwartz What issue are you referring to regarding the Dean of Admissions. My understanding is that the admissions scandal involved one college employee (volleyball coach). Wake remains one of my top choices (although it is stretch school for me) and I think the school has handled the situation as best it could. As for the President allowing the “offending” student to remain at Wake, I have to defer to him since he clearly is closer to the situation than any of us who are mere spectators
I agree that President Hatch is closer to the situation than you or I, but that doesn’t mean he is doing the right thing. As for the other issue: https://triad-city-beat.com/dean-admissions-wake-apologizes-confederate-flag-photo/. Read that article and tell me what YOU think.
Regarding the email from WFU… my son did not receive the email. Did everyone else get it? ACT 35, WGPA 4.5, varsity soccer captain. Are we the only ones who didn’t get. Thx! Maybe we are really not applicants after all. LOL
@jimboschwartz I know we are not talking about USC but they have announced that they will not let the kids that have applied for this year in which I think they said was 6 but they haven’t made any decisions about the students already enrolled. They said they will take them on a case by case basis. Wake has one student who as I understand wasn’t aware of the payment. This person also wasn’t party to the test cheating scam but was taken off the waitlist. I’m not condoning it or saying it is ok it is not. It is impossible not to compare how these schools are handling this.
I just think Wake has probably done their due diligence on students being considered for admissions now. I would assume every school involved in this scandal has done the same. Do you have ties to Wake at all?
I feel as badly about this as you. I am concerned specifically about the way these issues (both affect the perception of fairness in admissions) have been handled by President Hatch.
@jimboschwartz You’ve made your point. This is a thread for students awaiting their admission decisions. If you want to debate this further please start a separate thread.
@ncengineer123 One of my friends got it last week (who didn’t even end up applying to WFU) and then I got it a few days later. Nothing to worry about they are just coming out in waves I think!
My point was admissions decisions should be delayed. Seems on topic to me.
@jimboschwartz I respect your opinion, this has been an unbelievable situation.
Are you connected to Wake at all, do you have a student there or applying?
I respectfully disagree with you and think that those students applying this year shouldn’t be punished for the decisions of others. This is a stressful time for these kids and I don’t think we need to add to it. I agree with @marrast this thread should be used to discuss whether they were accepted or not. The fact that decisions will be mailed out this week makes it a moot point anyway.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
That said, you have made point and counterpoint. The purpose of this thread is not to debate the issue. Indeed, this site is not a debate society, so let’s move on.
Since I cannot post the whole letter, here is the link so that you all know when the Dean of Admissions is planning to send notifications, “Later this week, our admissions decision letters will be placed in the mail.”
http://fromtheforest.admissions.wfu.edu/2019/03/a-message-from-dean-allman-2/
By the way, the first letter I posted (post #76) was from a direct email that Dean Allman sent to me and was not copied from any website.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
The primary (but not exclusive) purpose of this thread is for HS students (and their parents) to discuss the Wake Forest application process/why Wake. The mods give a lot of leeway on these Class of XX type threads, so there are a lot of rambling, Walter Mitty-esque posts, which is fine. That said, the purpose of this thread is not to engage in debate about, as an example, what Martha Allen or Nathan Hatch should or should not do regarding anything. Stick to topic please.
I will also state, since I had to post a similar post this morning, that while my postings may be polite, they are not “suggestions” that one can choose to ignore. Posts that don’t comply are handled in accordance to the rules which are link at the bottom of every page. Thank you for your cooperation.
Did anyone else who is waitlisted receive the email announcing that decisions are being mailed later this week?
Our family will be out of town on a trip together the week decisions arrive in the mail. Does my son have any option to find out if he was admitted other than waiting until he gets back the following week? Thanks.
When does financial aid information come out, assuming the student gets accepted?
So did they send out the letters already? Some are saying they got in but I thought letters weren’t sent yet. Last year accepted students received their letters before waitlisted/rejected so I am concerned
I heard last year Admissions sent out a tweet of the mail truck on Friday. I haven’t seen a tweet yet, so I’m assuming they get mailed out tomorrow.
