I really think that Wake Forest is one of the schools I want to apply to, but a family friend said I should not go there because apparently the school is full of rich brats. Is this true? Are most of the kids at Wake Forest wealthy?

That family friend is pretty bitter and/or ignorant. It is a shame that folks can use blanket statements for an entire school. Obviously at any elite school many people come from a more privledged background. However, I do not find people to be snobs or pretentious. The only times I can think of people saying this is dealing with certain frats which are a bit more pretentious. Even in these fraternities that are more elitist there are some pretty cool people. Kids that do have money for the most part, you can't tell from their attitude and that is all that matters.

I agree with Wilmington. There tends to be this stereotype of kids at elite universities being wealthy and stuck up. I will agree, everywhere there is some of this. Having gone to a private school all my life, I am kind of used to it. One thing I see at Wake though are students on scholarship that don't have a lot of money and are more interested in world affairs.

It makes me upset when people use the argument your family friend made. Yes, there are wealthy people in this world. Yes, some of them show off (designer clothes, etc). This does NOT mean they are stuck up and do not understand you. We are all human, we cannot chose what we are born into.. we can only chose how we live. Most Wake kids are friendly and eager to make friends with those who are different than themselves. I like that.

Wake has a little more than its share for rich spoiled kids. I agree, that it isn't as bad as people say it is; but there are many rich kids at Wake.
