I am trying to decide between Wake Forest University and University of Dayton for college next year. I like both schools but in particular i like Wake Forest for their strong academics and UDayton for the strong sense of community. Any suggestions as to how I can make a decision? Or is there anyone who has experience with either of these schools who could offer any advice?

Honestly, I don’t know anything about University of Dayton… maybe that’s coz I’m ignorant or many its coz its not very well known… maybe a bit of both… all I know is Wake Forest is a great university that I applied to… wonderful campus, great academics… quite underrated in my opinion. I say go to Wake Forest!

Dayton is a Marianist College. But Wake has enough Catholics on campus to warrant a fulltime Catholic priest in campus ministry.

But on academics, Dayton does not rise to the level of Wake Forest. Dayton is A10 for basketball and very good, but Wake is in the ACC and there are few who would argue the ACC is the better conference for sports.

Wake has an enormous and powerful alumni base, who are very zealous in helping Wake students with internships and jobs.

To me its a no brainer. Nothing against Dayton. But Wake is clearly the better choice.

I’m a 2009 alum…since it seems like a bunch of people who know more about Wake Forest and less about UD have posted, I can tell you a little bit about UD. Probably won’t make the decision any easer but at least you’ll have all the info! :)

If you’re looking at UD from the standpoint of campus ministry…there is a huge program at UD. I wasn’t heavily involved, but I did go on a retreat and there was always a campus minister in every dorm I lived in, and there were always a bunch of brothers and priests around…their presence is definitely felt on campus!

Also…I know from all the mail that I get from the Alumni Office asking me to donate that there are over 100,000 UD alumni…I guess I don’t know how that compares to the robustness of other schools, but I feel like that’s pretty big!

In terms of size/community/etc, I always felt that UD was the perfect school because it was medium size. Wake Forest is smaller (as someone said) and there are tons of schools that are much larger…UD always felt like a great middle ground to me. Visiting friends at other schools, you could always just tell UD was the better place! Not too big, not too small…but just right!
