Hoping calls will be made sooner rather than later as well. I also was wishing we knew the numbers, but it didn’t seem like he really wanted to give them. It was nerve racking that you need someone sorta like you to drop out in order to get the spot and scared about missing the call.
Thank you! Wishing it would be sooner before other deposits have to be made and roommates picked, etc. it’s hard to let someone down if you leave them w/o a roommate at the last minute.
ya i feel the exact same way. like talking to other people from other schools trying to find urself a roommate while having this desire to go to wake in the back of ur head is sooo hard.
I feel largely the same way on having to have somebody so similar to you decline before getting a slot. They didn’t say exactly which factors they prioritize the most but made very clear it was all done on a region-by-region basis. It’s particularly discouraging as an alum that my daughter with competitive stats was deferred from ED to waitlist so her possible admission is tied to somebody with somewhat better stats and apparently very similar demographics (all to be sifted out by spreadsheet filters) but apparently without the same level of dedication and interest in WFU. Not surprising given the college admissions process these days as, based on his comments, this seems an excellent example of how tightly engineered each class is. It reminds me of the extreme partisan gerrymandering now possible thanks to sophisticated computer programs. I suppose this is great for accomplishing the university’s immediate goals, but I do wonder what it means for longer term culture. Growing pains from my perspective I suppose with the continued shift toward national focus and climb in rankings, etc. but I feel it is a shame applicants from other regions, some probably looking to attend the highest ranked school into which they are accepted more than particular fit, get admitted over qualified applicants with a long WFU commitment who happen to be in a different region. I understand that geographic mix is important but then so too is a real love for the school.
Totally agree. There was a young lady on the Facebook page who said she didn’t know much about WF but was accepted and is considering it. What happened to WF being all about demonstrated interest? I see so many accepted students who don’t seem to know much about the school. My daughter has done so much to show them her interest and she’s totally qualified. Seems sad and I’m starting to doubt their emphasis on “demonstrated interest”.
I’ve seen some of those FB posts and think most of them are just to get followers on social media. Most seem a little over the top and lack basic knowledge of WF.
I think the real problem with Wake’s calculation of demonstrated interest, and I partially commend them for it, it the lack of a “why” essay.
I know at the beginning of my college process I only had 3 schools on my list (because I only felt a genuine connection with 3 schools) and when my fam told me that I should at least add a couple match schools, I lowkey picked colleges at random. Albeit, I filtered them out and ended up with a list of schools that I liked for the most part, but one of the things that helped me filter them was the “why” essay. Honestly, for some schools I was completely impartial and the idea of straining to find a “why” and then write an essay about it turned me off; so I simply didn’t apply.
At Wake, the essays are fun. I’ll be honest, I got tired of the “why this school” “why this major” prompts so when I got to Wake and it asked about the books I find intriguing and for a top 10 list, I was excited! I love how they used the essays to gauge fit instead of interest but maybe adding a why essay wouldn’t hurt.
They did have the question about community and how it will help you change, or even build, the WFU community. It’s tough to do in 150 words, but my daughter tied it in to specific things at Wake. Not sure what the Wake’s own application looks like or the questions it asks. Probably more in depth.
Not yet. Im pretty sure at the waitlist meeting they said that no one would hear back until May 1, so just hold tight. Also, if you were rejected everywhere else but still want some closure, I think that some state schools accept applications until May 1 and reply on a rolling basis!
Two more young ladies posting in the accepted page that they don’t know much about Wake but maybe they can learn some from other people…still deciding. Wow! Just fascinated by this.
a lot of people saying wake is their top two are 100% only posting for more followers. the fact that only 1,000 ish people are following the wake 2025 insta is super promising tho. abt like 100-150 ish followers are parents too or like wake accounts. so i have a feeling they’re def going to the waitlist. it seems like wake wants 1400 student and bc of all the waitlists and the high applicant pools i rlly think a decent amount of people will be offered a spot towards the end of april/may.
I know that they started making calls around the end of April last year, but with the uncertainty of admissions this year and how late they released regular decision this year, I really don’t think any calls will be made until after May 1st. I do hope they start making calls after that though. It is getting really difficult for me to decide on another one of my options since they are so different in comparison to wake. Plus, I do not like them nearly as much as I love wake. I’m sure many of you are in the same position. Should I be trying to pick a roommate now for the school I will be depositing at? It’s so hard to fall in love with another school when the uncertainty of whether or not I’ll get off the waitlist at wake haunts me every day!
I’m waiting to pick my roommate because roommate selections for my school is in July and there are students in our exact situation who are waiting until May 1st to send a deposit just in case we get off the waitlist. I still have time to find a roommate if I wait a little while longer.
