Wake workload and grade deflation

how hard is it to get a good GPA at wake fresh. year? Do you get to pick your teachers if you know some are better than others? How much work is typically done a week?

Based on my son’s freshman year - the workload will vary and the GPA will vary quite a bit. He did very well first semester - which he attributes to some luck as far as which professors he had - and hard work. Second semester - a bit harder for him - he had 3 writing intensive courses - from the English, Politics and History departments - and I think that was a more intense workload - don’t know his final grades for this semester yet of course, but it sounds like they will be a bit lower.

When you register - there may be 1 section for some courses and 10 or more sections for others. If you have a preference as to a particular professor - you can try to get him/her - but it is not always possible. When registering - you need to have several alternate choices in mind - as you will not always be able to get the exact 4 or 5 classes you had in mind.

I think he worked very hard - particularly the last 3 weeks of this semester - but I never heard him say he was overwhelmed or completely buried. Have no idea on the number of hours - and that will vary so much from one student to the next anyway.

hey big tuna, wake is known as “work forest” so its pretty hard…i just dont want you to go so i might get off the waitlist…but seriously, its hard.
