As an accounting major, Wake Forest University has been brought to my attention. I have read that Wake’s CPA passing rate is ~100% and this fact alone makes me very interested in the university. I am wondering how tough it is to get into their MS in accounting program; especially if you attended another university for your undergrad.
My current university has a pretty reputable accounting program and I think that Wake’s admission committee will have heard of my school, but I know that accounting at Wake is a REALLY big deal. I’m not sure if even getting a 4.0 GPA would grant me admission into Wake’s MS in accounting program since they possibly have a much more rigorous program.
I have heard that getting the CPA license is the ultimate goal, which is my ultimate goal. However, my resume isn’t going to be as “flashy” as many other resumes, so I thought a prestigious grad school might make me stand out more to future employers.
So, chance me?
2 years community college: 3.75 GPA; Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Expected 4 year GPA: 3.4; Dean’s list spring '15
ECs: Volunteer for two years at local homeless shelter (50+ hrs)
Work experience: Hopeful in getting an internship next summer; tons of work experience in customer service
I’d like to point out a few things: My GPA at my 4 year is LOW, I know. However, that is because of a bad semester I had before even going to comm college and improving myself as a student. I am hoping Wake would see my growth as a person over the passed few years. Also, I still have a chance at making dean’s list for the few semesters I have left, and I have been heavily considering joining the nationally known frats: either Alpha Phi Omega Comm Service Frat, or Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Frat. Maybe with a killer essay, Wake might consider me?
