Walk Ins at NY Unifieds...which schools?

I'm auditioning for 4 schools this weekend at NY Unifieds, but I want to try to do several walk ins, if possible...both as a warmup for my later auditions and as other options. I'm already auditioning for Penn State, Point Park, Montclair, and Emerson. Are there any schools that generally never accept walk ins? Which schools have in the past? Also, is it best to get there earlier and then ask each school if/when they're accepting walk ins? Sorry for so many questions, just unsure!

Last year, UMich did NOT accept walk ins @ NY Unifieds. I suspect that will be the same again this year. I also know that UArts did accept walk ins, but the slots filled up VERY quickly. Yes, it’s best to get there EARLY and go to the schools that interest you and see if walk ins are available.

Yes, get there as early as you can with extra resume/photos; preferably before the schools get there. Walk-in slots do fill very quickly.

Due to the snow storm in NYC and the difficulty that some will find in traveling to NY , there may be an increased opportunity for walk ins.
As takeitallin suggested, bring extra headshots and resumes, and would suggest extra recommendation letters and cash or checks for audition fees, so that if there is a spot you will have everything you need.

How do you know exactly who is at NYC Unifieds?

It is my understanding that UMich does not accept walk-ins as you have to be accepted academically first. This site list who will be at Unifieds but not all schools are at all locations. I would think you would need to look at the individual schools website to see if they will be in NYC.

Also make sure you have your music in some format in case any of the walk-ins do not provide an accompanist (you may already be doing this if one of your scheduled auditions does not provide one). My daughter loaded everything onto an i-pod and then took a very small (but loud) speaker system with her just in case.

Ball State is accepting walk-ins at New York Unifieds!

Last year my S did walk-ins at the New York Unifieds for UMiami and Montclair. His paperwork got screwed up at both schools. Montclair said to send his school information to one address and then the MT people said they never received his info. There was similar confusion at Miami. My recommendation is if you do a walk-in audition, be SURE to follow up carefully!

It is really important for those auditioning who plan to use an ipod ALSO bring a CD. Always be prepared. Machines break. It is great you bring your own but I would use it only as a back up. The people who will audition you already know how to work their own and have worked out the optimal volume to hear you sing.

Good luck to all.

actually NYC Unifieds are over! On to Chicago!

I ended up doing walk ins at University of Miami and Hartt this weekend. CCM, Michigan, Roosevelt, and Emerson were not accepting walk ins at all. I know Montclair, Ball State & Savannah College were accepting walk ins, and Penn State was also but had a waitlist.

For the benefit of this thread. Boco does not accept walk ins unless you have applied by the deadline.
