I’m a girls lacrosse player from the Seattle area. I play for a traveling club team as well as my high school team. I am just wondering what the process is like for an athlete to attempt to walk onto a D2 team? This doesn’t have to specifically mean lacrosse, I’m sure the process is at least somewhat similar for many different sports. Thanks!
At a few schools ranked at the top of D2 it would be hard because they have a full team even when they start in the fall. Florida Southern, Adelphi, Lindenwood might be tough to walk on but many many other D2 schools have plenty of room on the team.
But why not contact the coaches and see if there are still spaces on the team. Many would have room and the coach can at least give you information on how to walk on or if/when they have try outs. There might even be money left in the coach’s budget.
Thank you so much, this is very helpful! I will definetly contact a few coaches. Do you happen to know anything about the Colorado Mesa University lacrosse team? (I’m not sure what area you live in so you may not know anything about Colorado schools).
Colorado Mesa has a growing lacrosse team with a new coach and a pretty good record last year. I’m sure they can use you, especially if you have travel team experience. One thing about playing at a Colorado school is that conditioning is important. You’ll be running at 5000+ feet, not only at Mesa but at the schools you’ll play (Regis, UCCS, Pueblo). Lacrosse teams from Colorado/Utah tend to be a little smaller but much faster than those from the lowlands!
Good luck. Mesa’s a great college experience. Contact the coach
