Wallischeck ’83 Appointed To Assistant Superintendent Position

<p>WALLISCHECK ’83 APPOINTED TO ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT POSITION</p>

<p>*Effective 23 July 2006, Captain Eric York Wallischeck, USMS is appointed as Assistant Superintendent for Plans, Assessment and Public Affairs. A 1983 dual license graduate of USMMA, Captain Wallischeck sailed in the towing industry upon graduation. He later joined the USMMA Foundation as Director of the America II program and later as Director of Development. Since 1991, Captain Wallischeck has served USMMA as Director of Waterfront Activities and Sailing Master. He has also served as Acting Director of the Department of Information Technology. During his tenure at USMMA, Captain Wallischeck has served as the Academy’s Strategic Planning officer and he has assisted in the development and implementation of numerous assessment tools. He recently completed a management program at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.</p>

<p>The position of Assistant Superintendent for Plans, Assessment and Public Affairs is a new position at the Academy that has been approved by the Maritime Administration. With its establishment, this Assistant Superintendent will oversee a new Division comprised of the Office of Public Affairs and the Office of Assessment. The new Division will be responsible for Academy strategic planning and will also oversee the operations of Melville Hall, the Museum, and the Parent’s Program. This position (and the new Division) has been established in accordance with the Academy’s Strategic Plan and by the recommendation of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.</p>

<p>It addition to its obvious missions, the Division of Plans, Assessment and Public Affairs will be tasked with improving and expanding awareness of the United States Merchant Marine Academy as a national institution and the USMMA's role in serving the economic and strategic maritime interests of the United States.*</p>
