I wanted to know how good is Walton College of Business esp. for Accounting Major.

As per rankings, Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas has placed in a tie for 24th among the nation's top public undergraduate business schools, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2010 America's Best Colleges. And The Walton College moved from 43rd place to 42nd place among both public and private undergraduate business schools.

Likewise, The Sam M. Walton College of Business Accounting Department's Undergraduate Program is ranked # 9 and the Graduate Program is ranked #10 among medium schools by the Public Accounting Report National Rankings, 2010.

Business week ranks it 83rd....

Besides rankings, I want to know how reputed is Walton among the Big 4 and recruiters? Is it worth going there for Accounting?

Pretty good rating, personally i think your interview is going to have alot to do with you getting hired, but if their accounting is number 9 go go go go go, or just go to a better school

I guess you people think because a school isnt ranked it isnt a good one. lol most companies are going to hire people native to the area. so it really depends on where your college is located, these ranking really wont matter after a 2-4 years in the workforce.

to many people get tied up in rankings when choosing a college

I’d like to chime in. I’ve been trying to keep up with UofA threads, but missed this one up until this point. As has been mentioned, the Walton College of Business is ranked 24th amongst public business schools. Although some people here appear to believe that is a terrible ranking for reasons I do not quite understand, the Walton College has been working hard to ensure that its students are successful and I believe that ranking reflects that. Business Week has ranked the Accounting program within the top 20 of public accounting programs (35th amongst public and private) and although this is the first year they have been ranked by Business Week, I believe it does show that the college is working to improve their recognition and marketability of their graduates. Part of the benefits for students include the area in general- Wal-Mart, JB Hunt, Tyson, Simmons Foods, Allen Canning, and others are headquartered in Northwest Arkansas, and over 300 of the Fortune 500 have regional offices in the area. Forbes ranked Northwest Arkansas as the 4th Best Place for Business and Careers, and the Walton College uses the resources of the area to the advantage of its students in securing internships, co-ops, and ultimately, careers for them. The University of Arkansas holds the license for the recently established Arkansas World Trade Center in Rogers, AR and this academic involvement with the WTC organization is a great benefit to the Walton College. If you’d like more information about the Walton College and a meeting with its faculty and staff, please contact me directly, Umanga, and I’d be happy to arrange an appointment for you.

For most of you, thank you for trying to provide advice and contribute to the discussion. To some of you- it’s disappointing to see so many people become so harsh and discouraging to other students simply because you don’t approve of their opinion or views. I wish you all the best in your academic endeavors, but remind you that there is no sure path to success regardless of how much faith you put in your own opinions and the rankings of newspapers and magazines. I’d like to remind you that how you present yourself in an interview matters a great deal more than your how your business school was ranked, and I do hope you will act more appropriately in an interview than you do on this forum.

Thanks all, and I will attempt to provide more accurate information about the Walton College in the future. Feel free to contact me with any questions about the University of Arkansas, and I will do my best to assist you or if I am unable to, find someone who does know the answer to your question.

lol im not even in college yet, but ranking dont matter, because majority of employers recruit in their state locally. like University of Houston sends just as many graduates to the Big 4 as UT and A&M. although UofH as a whole is ranked alot lower than the 2. their business students are heavily recruited.

im just saying people get 2 tied up in ranking, hell you dont know where the school will be ranked 50+ years from now, but it wont matter because you dont go their anymore

so while that school your talking about may not have a high rank, their students will still be recruited by companies locally, luckily in texas their are plenty of companies to get hired at
