WAMC - Low GPA, High SAT.

Hey everyone, so I’m a senior in High School and have an unweighted GPA of a 1.87 // weighted of 2.51. School has never really interested me so I never really tried until this year, with straight A’s in each class. I took the SATs once (in October) and got a 1380, and I plan on taking them again in December. My hopes are to go to a school such as UMass Boston, Suffolk University, or even Newbury college (which is most likely the only one I can get into.
What are my chances with a low GPA with high test scores?

Bump, still need help with this.

oh my goodness what a gpa…. do u have any extracurriculars?

Not being interested in high school hasn’t really played out well for you. If you weren’t interested in high school, what sparked your interest in college? Not sure about these colleges, but is it possible that you go to a community college first and then transfer to a college of your choice (considering you doing well at that community college)?

This is a tricky situation. Your SAT is very high and above the average for most of those colleges. But your GPA is wayyy below the average gpa for those colleges. I think the most important thing to do is to explain your sudden spark of interest and hard work that has progressed this year in your essays. Good essays can override some bad part of your application but I am not sure if it will allow admissions officers to look past your gpa. But it is worth a shot!

I would focus on raising your GPA rather than taking the SAT again because your current score is high. WIthout a high gpa, a higher SAT wont do much for getting into colleges.

Otherwise, consider community college for a year and get a high GPA there that will demonstrate your newfound passion for school! Then you will have a much higher chance of getting into these colleges the next year.

Hi Mr.Meaf, I hope you got some help from your school’s guidance counselors. Sounds like you are a really smart kid who was bored in school! Good luck to you.
