Want to double Major in Philosophy and ? I enjoy writing

So, from what I hear philosophy majors get slim pickings when it comes to the job market, and that it is more of a stepping stone to a graduate program. Even then it's either law, which I hear people loathe and I personally have no interest in, or med, which I am interested in (neuroscience) but probably lack the conviction to stick with it. I would much rather write for a living, pretty much about anything not including sports. But I have no illusions about being a writer. The chances of making a living at it are against me, I know, but I am more than willing to try. What would be a good second major for me, given that I want to write?

This question doesn't appear to make much sense. Given my qualms about not finding a job as a philosophy major, what is the point in double-majoring in an equally 'impractical' subject? I guess what I really want to hear is that my dreams aren't as silly as they actually are, that what I want to achieve is perfectly achievable and is not outside the realm of possibility.

I’d avoid putting all of your eggs in one basket even if your chances were great. :/

How am I supposed to avoid that? Going to college and majoring in a subject is essentially doing just that, I’m just doubling up.

If you like neuroscience, look at technical or scientific writing. You can learn about topics you like and will have the background to write for either a scientific or a general audience. Researchers need competent writers. So do pharmaceutical companies. So do websites about health issues. Pay is good, and jobs (at least in Philly and NYC) are available.

In your spare time you can write poetry or novels or plays or whatever.
