i’d appreciate if someone built a time machine or told me my chances…

Nobody looks at writing. You are in the 122/15 range. Good luck!

161 apply; 85 accepted , good luck!

74/270, good luck!

If you get here, you will realize nothing gets done efficiently. Ever.

Hi, I’m not sure how specific I can be. Your application is read by one member of the admissions committee, often a teacher or administrator full-time. The average time given to an application is between 5 and 8 minutes. So this representative reads all materials before making a decision.

No problem. 156/80. Good luck!

25 apply; 4 accepted; good luck! You are rare type of applicant.

No problem! And thanks for the well wishes, exams are going ok. Nope, no superscores. But can you tell me your class rank? Broadly, I can tell you based on your ACTs with a top 5% rank you are in the 33% chance range.

Hi, well I know Friday, but I will be in office tomorrow and of course I will see if some go out then and let you know!

Hey, do you have a class rank? I know you’re COL but this info would also help. 150/680 is the general range I can give if you are in the top 5%. Your odds go down a little bit to around 12% if you have no class rank given. Good luck!

No problem, it’s not annoying, it’s great to help out if I can. Are you liberal arts or science major or undeclared? Looks like a 700/260 range with liberal arts, but your odds go up to 50% if you’re a science applicant.

Glad to help - 232/133! Great odds. Good luck.

Hey, no problem. Looks like your in the same general range as one of the above posters in that 700/262 range. Soft factors will help you stand out, like those extracirriculars. Remember, the way to think of it is that the range is just for people with your basic SATs and class rank. Beyond that, what gets you in are these intangibles, and I think you’ve got some of the better ones.

Hi, I don’t have a stats breakdown for that – it’s a soft factor that will help you stand out big time among those 21 though. Good luck!

310/14 if in COL; 182/14 if MSB. Legacy status of course is one of the many soft factors not accounted for in these ranges. Good luck!

156/82 - good luck!

What do you mean about the extracirriculars? You’d need to tell me gpa and/or class rank for a range though. Don’t be nervous, no big deal.

Hi, I believe this is by email. I will ask tomorrow though since I’m not in charge of this.

590/150 if in COL; 380/74 if SFS. You have a great shot!

Hi Mario,
I am just a bit confused as to how Gtown takes the GPA into account. My school only weights the AP classes and that it only on a 1.1 basis. Therefore, when I see some of these 4.6 GPAs I cringe for myself because even though I will 5 APs under my belt and am in the process of taking 6 this year, students in my school could never get a wtd GPA that high. I feel that the fact that my school also does not rank is going to hurt me too.
Thanks and I wish you a successful finals exam week as wel as a restful break thereafter.

Hi, no problem. Every high school has extremely different and non-standard ways of calculating GPAs. One around where I live routinely hands out GPAs over 5.0 somehow. Other schools have no honors credit and the absolute max is 4.0. Georgetown and every other college understands this, and this is why they prefer to have some sort of class rank that shows where you are relative to the other students in your class. In other words, if you have a 3.8 GPA but are #1 in your class, that is preferable to having a 5.595 GPA but being #30 in your class.

It is pretty common for a school to not have an official ranking on the transcript. A lot of times, counselors will still indicate an approximate rank e.g. Top 10%, top 20%, on the counselor form they are required to submit for your application. If they fail to do this, all is not lost, because Georgetown looks at your transcript and can determine how well you did. If there’s no rank and a weird GPA, admissions can take a look at the transcript to see if you’ve got mostly A’s or what’s the deal. Also, admissions officers may know something about the particular high school’s competitiveness and general standards from talking to counselors/reading their input on the recommendation or even through experience with the school if it’s a particularly well known school. Either way, not having a rank or standard GPA will not hurt because this is out of your control and admissions can recognize an incompetent or unhelpful counselor when they see one. Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi, it is 310 applications, 15 acceptances. Good luck! The EC and volunteer hours and other factors come into play to differentiate you within this range but aren’t accounted for in those ranges.

Do these statistics that you are giving us include recruited athletes as well? Because some of the GPA/standardized test scores don’t even come close to the average admit yet you are giving stats for them.
Any “official” - as in you are in the office and KNOW for sure that the decisions have been mailed?

Hi, yes, it includes legacies, recruited athletes – anyone who applied, at any point in the cycle. You are right that a good number of lower stats acceptances are athletes or legacies, but not all are. Stats aren’t everything, just 90% of it =). As to your second question - yep. Good luck everyone!

um, can someone tell me my chances to georgetown university regular decision? critical reading 780 math 730 writing 760, math2 770 math1 760 lit 800 gpa 4.7 out of 5.0 go to pretty bad public school in nj, am white female.

mario- thanks for doing this
and i’m sorry if this question has already been asked, but how does Georgetown look at internationals, for example, I’m taking the IB, but my school has no rankings, and no GPA for IB (our counselor calculates it but doesnt send it because she has her own special system)
Additionally, we don’t take classes for SAT; we don’t get ANY preparation, so is this taken into account when looking at our school?
Sooooo in conclusion: does being an international work as a positive or negative?

Wow my chances would’ve been 50% if I applied as a science major and 37 as a liberal arts. That’s a huge difference lol. I applied undecided, where does that put me at? Thanks Mario

collegeinfo, I’m not as knowledgeable about this as Mario, but I would guess that unless you gave them an impression otherwise (i.e. in your essays) undecided would be treated as a liberal arts major.

Mario, not to add any pressure during finals time, but I noticed you’ve been using SAT scores when possible. I assume this is because your chart is based on the SAT. Although I think I already know the answer, just to put to ease the mind of myself and others, is this because Georgetown prefers the SAT? On a serious note, does Georgetown have an official ACT-SAT conversion chart you can share with us? Or is it just a general working knowledge of the readers?

I really thank you for all your work
Just before our early results, I was just wondering when internationals get the emails
I’m international. Whether I’ll get those tomorrow when all the other mails are sent out or after the weekend, it’s just freaking me out.
I really appreciate your stuff here! This thread and all.

I will be able to respond to the stats questions in my next post later tonight, but for now,

----Collegeinfo, remember, if you had indicated you were a pre-med student, you’d need to demonstrate through recommendations and other soft factors that you were really interested in that. So it is more than just checking off pre-med and having it easier. Also, I was being a little simplistic when I said 50% given your stats in science. It’s closer to 46%.

—Decisions are out, as of Fri they are released at once [it is not as though they are segregated] and some will have them by the weekend, especially international applicants. average date of arrival should be the 15th.

----Being an international applicant is a positive factor in general. Do not worry about the weird rank situation you have. Explain it to admissions if you are worried about any extenuating circumstances.
