It may be a longshot...chances please

I visited Georgetown this past spring break, and, of course, I loved it. Do you think I have a chance? I'm thinking about majoring in either history/political science with the goal of going on to law school.

white/female/tennessee/rising senior

GPA: 3.72 (unweighted)/4.1 (weighted) (.5+ for honors/1+ for AP)
I will have taken 9 AP classes, 5 honors classes, and 4 years of foreign language.
I have no idea what my class rank is, but its probably in the top 10% or very close to it.

ACT: 30 (33 reading/30 math/29 english/26 science)
SAT II: 670 US History
Will take Math L2 and Literature in Fall (expecting around 700 for both)

Extracurriculars:
Assistant Karate Instructor (been involved since 1996 and have done many things on regional/national level)
Sports Editor for my school newspaper
Student Council representative and committee member
Interact(service club)-head of various projects and treasurer
National Honor Society committee member
400+ hours of volunter work by time of graduate (Presidents Gold Award)
Distinguished Spanish 1 Student award

Please! I know it probably a reach but some advice would be great! My senior year schedule is 6 AP's and 1 Honors course. If my midterm grades are all A's, my unweighted gpa would then be around a 3.8ish unweighted...

Hey, sorry I can't really give you an opinion, because I'm in the same position as you are, as a rising senior. However, I think it's always a long shot, especially with a school as top notch as Georgetown!

And just a question, because we're in the same position, are you only submitting one SAT II score? I've been reading conflicting reports, some say it's not required, only recommended, and then some sites say 2, some say 3..and I only have 2 (thinking of retaking USH and taking Lit for the first time...oh man I'm going to have to buckle down and study).

I think all those APs will really look good on your application, my school doesn't offer AP but I took the tests anyway and did terribly. Plus, since you're from Tennessee that could give you an advantage.

And in terms of ACTs I have the same composite score as you do, and we're right in their range. Almost no one submits ACTs to Georgetown though, only like 5%, so I'm hoping that might give me (us) an advantage?

apply! it's the only way you'll ever really know whether or not you can get in

shazzy44, why do you say being from tennessee might help? does being out of state give you an advantage? (i'm just beginning the college search, so i don't know what helps and what doesn't)

i think they mean that tennessee is an underrepresented state (compared to say, new jersey or new york?) and colleges seem to think that is special.

hmmmm....how about ohio?

I think it's only for the truly underrepresented states that it can help...Ohio is fairly average. Im talking Tenn, Kentuck, Ala, Miss, ND, SD, MT, NM, Arkansas. Those.

i'm from new mexico! if only i was hispanic...

Arizona is underrepresented, right?

Move to Idaho, people. It was the only state not represented among the class of 2011. :D

There were about three or so from Oregon...
