Thanks circumlocution. pretty sure it's one rec for your school though I haven't seen the application. As far as the financial aid thing, the answer is no, the school has enough qualified applicants who are paying that it does not need to reject anyone who cannot pay or give bonuses to those who can. If the stock market implodes then they might not be so cocky. Ccsbm, SAT IIs are soft factors that compliement your application. So IF you're gunning for sciences then yes. If you want liberal arts then you can "forgot" to report them for a bit. Though it's not going to be a big deal either way since both scores are quite good.

This is difficult for me to gauge since the counselor's number is what is most important. I am showing you have roughly 16 applicants and 3 acceptances given similar numbers. 2nd decile makes things tough no matter what school you are trying to get into, but 20% odds of admission are pretty good and given your ap's and , hopefully SAT IIs, I think your chance is more like 30%. Just be thankful you aren't applying to the business school, for some reason last year they were especially brutal to people in the 2nd decile. yeesh. not sure what happened there.

no problem, but it would help to know if you're applying for a liberal arts degree or a science/pre-med program for me to provide info!

Thanks for the information Mario. For the GPA, would it have been better if it were left blank? My school doesn't rank at all and I had to persuade my counselor to write down a number. It's mostly pure guess, and he tends to be very conservative.

Well, 3.83 is a high GPA so I don't see a problem with that. You should ask your counselor why he wrote down top 20% if it is not based on anything. If there is no rank provided by the school, then it is much better to say No rank than Top 20%, since Top 20% is so general as to be detrimental to the application.

as an aside: we're getting ready to start doing accepted student early action phone calls in november and i hope i get to call some of you. if you get deferred don't sweat it. as i mentioned a million times i was deferred. just let admissions know you're still interested, that is -- if you still ARE interested! a lot of times people think they really want to go here but visit other schools in the spring and change their mind. don't get too stressed.
