hey everyone. I'm new here, and I'm a freshman wanting to transfer to wellesley in a couple of years. What is the college really like-the students, life, academics? Does anybody know how many transfer applicants they get a year? Has anybody been through the transferring process? Any advice/information about transferring would be greatly appreciated.

They don't take many transfer students. Here are the fall 03 stats.

Transfer applications received for Fall 2003: 76
Transfer applicants offered admission for Fall 2003: 21
Transfer applicants enrolled for Fall 2003: 12

I don't know how much has changed since then, but I don't think they are "transfer- friendly". Smith College, Mount Holyoke, and Barnard College accept more transfer students if you're interested in women LAC. What are your stats? Since Wellesley is quite selective, you probably need a good high school record because they do look at your hs transcript and sat scores. You also need a high college gpa and extracirricular activities. I hope this helps. I'm not too sure about the college life there because i've never been there. But i did read the "don't go to wellesley" thread here at cc in the wellesley college forum. You might want to check it out if you want to see the "other side" of Wellesley :)

I transferred to Wellesley back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Back then, I believe they took 2 sophomore transfers. I was one of them. You will need good performance at your current school. I think a key is to show Wellesley, in your application, what it has to offer that your current school doesn't. In my case, it was a combination of their strength in my planned major and the fact that my freshman year school was not challenging enough for me academically.

As to what Wellesely is like, you probalby don't want my Dinosaur era recollections. The school is beautiful beyond words, vibrant, readily accessible to Boston/Cambridge (where I spent tons of time) for socializing, culture, food and fun. The students are diverse, supportive and become leaders in every field.

My stats...

high school gpa: 3.86
took several AP's, 4's and 5's on exams, some honors courses sprinkled throughout.
nearly perfect SAT score...ACT a low 34 thanks to a 103 degree fever on test day. I was so delirious that day. arrrg.
college gpa currently is 3.9
many leaderships stuff at church and at school. involved with several clubs on campus now. I'm just really bored at where I am-not feeling like I'm learning anything.

Strong credentials, Adina, and your reasoning sounds much like mine was. Go for it. I do question your "in a couple of years" phrase. You must be too late to apply for your sophomore year, but I don't believe a school will consider a transfer later than for your junior year.

slight exaggeration there...i really meant, applying as a sophmore, next year. is it too late to come in as a junior?

No its not too late to apply as a junior transfer. just don't go beyond that. You have strong stats. I think you have a good shot at wellesley.
