Aw, Sucharita, it's really cute! :p You're such a ray of light. :)

jmarsh - doesn't hurt to ask. D actually wound up with a three-letter ID, first intial middle initial last initial. Which, when you say all three letters in order, actually SOUNDS as though you are saying the nickname for her first name and then her last initial.

And I can't say what it is for privacy reasons - sorry, it's kind of a cute puzzle when you know the answer.

so i really hate mine - it's [my three initals]two@pton.edu. i mean, TWO? i feel so secondclass :( is unoriginality a good enough reason to request a switch? i'm distressed.

whoa...seriously? two?! lol if only we could choose our own IDs, like at Stanford...:P

Hahahaha, I didn't think anyone could actually get stuck with the number. I saw it in the algorithm (it's last)--there aren't numbers allowed in undergrad netIDs, so they have to be spelled out.
But yeah, that sucks.

Nothing exciting for me - except the whole seeing my name on the site... i'm just firstinitialLastName@princeton.edu... just like my Blackboard account for HS.

I think it's magnificent.

If you want your username changed, get it done immediately upon receiving your address. Otherwise you'll have trouble registering for courses in the fall if you're in the midst of changing the NetID.

does anyone know when we're supposed to be e-mailed our new addresses?

agh, too bad we can't activate them yet..

I want one like my friend at Hope ... firstname.secondname@college.edu. That dot is so cool.

I just got all my stuff in the mail to activate it. Weird, since I always get mail later than all the east coasters.

OUuuu when was it postmarked?

I got email stuff and permanent address form just now. :D :D :D

Kjoodles: Mine was postmarked 05/27/2006.

I got mine today too... I called to have it changed, and I eventually had to go to the website and file an official complaint. For my reason, I gave them the whole story about how the ID contains the name "marsha" which was made famous on the Brady Bunch with the phrase "marcia, marcia, marcia!" and how people would make comments whenever they saw it. The person with IT seemed half amused/half annoyed, but apparently, they're changing it... :)

Things I don't like about this:
Hotmail filters out emails to junk mail.
Sender is labeled as "John Doe (johndoe@Princeton.EDU)" instead of just "John Doe."

Is there a way to change these at all?

sings Maybe, tomorrow, I'll get it, tomorrow. :p

You can probably log in even if you haven't gotten your mailing yet.

Your username is your first intinital + your last name (truncated at some point)

Your password MIGHT be "HT5d" followed by the last four digits of your SSN. Mine was, anyway

pyro, you forgot middle initial :)

zelda q. johnson, for example, would be zqjohnso

and I think the password varies, since my instructions were different from pyroclastic's

The usernames dont seem to be compulsory either. Mine doesn't have a middle initial, and some of them are entirely different. My password is different, too. But I just got mine (ten minutes ago!) and I usually get everything last, so if you havent recieved it yet, I bet its on the way! =)
