WANTED: Unobvious reasons to choose Schreyers

I know that Schreyer students get sepcial housing and first pick for classes and that their classes are generally small - but what kind of opportunities had they had?

I am looking for stories/little unknown facts that will give me a more complete idea of Schreyer and also how well their graduates do.

Thanks

Schreyer is very competitive and I believe that their graduates do extremely well. My brother is 40 and had a Penn State Honors school many years ago...I don't know if it was called Schreyer then.

He earned a BS in Computer Science, stayed at Penn State for a completely free MS in Computer Science and continued to earn a free PhD at John Hopkins. He completed his PhD in his late 20s with $0 student loans and is now in California earning a great living!

My son is a freshman at Schreyer and is taking his 2nd Chem class this semester. The class is small enough that the prof is giving the kids oral exams. They schedule and appointment and meet for an exam! You probably won't find anything better at more well known private universities. He also got a great summer job with a small chemical co. near us that is owned by an early honors college grad. (before it was called Schreyer).
I hope this reaches you in time to help. My S is extremely happy and satisfied.

this is obvious but can be important... the scholarship you automatically get. for this year's class its $3500 / year.

not so obvious - scholars can get travel grants to help pay for study abroad and other trips such as the london study tour that is held over the winter break.

don't underestimate the importance of picking classes first either - especially as a freshman/sophomore where you are low on priority otherwise.

honors advisors are also amazing... they can basically do anything - its so much easier to get what you need and they are very very helpful.
