Wanting to be a storyboard artist / writer - NYU and SCAD?

I've been writing all of my life, but more recently I have started to draw as well. I mostly sketch and I love it, but I'm still very inexperienced. I have always had a passion for art, however, and have always been interested in animation and graphic novels.

Three schools I have been considering are NYU, SCAD, and Calarts. Calarts seems...way beyond my level. I'm drawing all of the time and am dedicated, but I have not been drawing all of my life, and I don't think I'm cut out for it yet.

What I'm considering is going to SCAD to study Sequential Art, Film/TV, or writing, and then either transferring to NYU, or going to NYU for grad school. Is this possible? Furthermore, would it be possible for me to major in sequential art (with a minor in film/tv or writing), and then go for a major in film/tv or writing at NYU? Or perhaps animation. I don't know, these plans are probably super off; I'm not very well-informed about any of these things. So, just general advice about this, suggestion, information, etc.

And, in case it is important, I have a 3.7 GPA, have taken all AP and Honors classes, and scored a 32 on the ACT. My family makes under 60,000 a year (financial aid will definitely be a factor in my decision, though I am working and constantly on the search for scholarships).

I don’t know much about NYU in particular, but I have been hearing some terrible issues with its financial aids office.

^Yes, check out the CC visual arts/film threads. You can find some great resources there. I would suggest you to look at Boston U, and Emerson College, Carnegie Mellon.
