I'm a current community college student who is looking to transfer to complete a bachelor's in journalism. I'm looking for schools to transfer to, but the problem isn't really getting in (I have a 4.0 GPA) as much as paying for it. My dad is disabled and doesn't work, but my mom makes a six figure salary, thus our EFC is fairly high. The issue is that we definitely can't afford to pay nearly as much as the FAFSA says we can, and this has limited my college options. As I've been researching schools, I've developed an interest in a couple that require the CSS Profile. I was wondering if schools that use this form and have larger endowments are more generous with aid, and thus allow families to pay less than their EFC? I know each school uses the form differently, but I'm just curious about the insights any of you may have. My parents can only afford to contribute a small amount to my college expenses, and I'm already working on applying to my state universities. My question is, would it even be worth all the effort to apply to private schools if I can't afford my EFC? Big loans are definitely out of the question, as journalism may be the least lucrative field ever. Thank you for reading, and for any help you can offer. :)

There’s probably only a couple J schools that require Profile so your best bet is to call admissions or the J School directly at whichever schools you are interested in and require Profile and ask them if there are scholarships available to junior transfers. Not to be snotty, but if you’re interested in journalism, now is a good time to do the research and look for the facts! Whether it’s worth the effort is a decision only you can make.
